Help with info on 6.6L

I've got a 92 F600 project I'm working on and need a little help. I bought this truck wrecked. I ran it out of fuel while working on it parked. From what I've found out, it probably has air in the line. I'm trying to purge it with the hand pump above the fuel filter. All I got tonight was a sputter. Any suggestions on getting it going?

I'm interested in tech info on this engine, since I plan to have this truck for a while. Is there free info out there? If not, where do I find it?

If it has the two small fuel filters mounted on the intake manifold, open the bleeder screw on that assembly and use the hand primer pump till solid fuel appears there. Then close the screw and continue to use the hand primer pump untill its difficult to pump, secure pump plunger by screwing down finger tight. Attempt to start engine.

It has a single filter on the passenger side with button type hand pump.

Those are great engines. Just as said, pump it til fuel comes out, close the bleeder, pump again, and when you're cranking hold your foot to the floor. It dumps more fuel in it, and helps it start much easier.

I'm waitng on my book to come in to help me locate things. It should be in tomorrow. I'm hoping to get out and try it after work.

Thanks,

After that, you can get to adjusting the fuel rate & timing.

Looks like it'll be Saturday before I can get over to work on it.

I'll just be thrilled to get her cranking so I can start my build-up. This being my first diesel, I've got a lot to learn. I'll worry about the performance stuff after my builds finished and I got a few miles on her. I followed your link and read the post. It's good info.

Thanks,
John B.

fill the fuel filter with diesel fuel or diesel kleen before you start pumping, and it will make your life a lot easier.
once you try to start it, keep the idle around 1000-1500rpm for about 1 minute, or until the engine runs clean with no sputtering. this will ensure you get all the air out of the lines. if you rev it too high before it fills everything up, you take a chance of running the filters dry before the mechanical fuel pump can fill them and purge the system of air.

Thanks for the advise. I got tied up today, so haven't had a chance to look at it yet. I'll post my success later.

Thanks again,
John B.
