i have 1993 ford f250 7.3 IDI non turbo i ran it out fuel i had to bleed the injector lines to get it crank back up it ran well the next time i crunk it up it runs rough and blows lots of white smoke that smells rich this is my first deisel truck i really dont know what to do next so i really need some help thanks

 

let it run for a bit it should clear up

 

Is it hard starting ??
Does it die after it starts ??
Does it clear up after a few minutes ??

FYI, Bleeding is done at the Schrader valve on the Filter head, it is unnecessary to crack injector lines, once the air is out of the system up to and including filter, the Injection pump will bleed itself in just a few revolutions of the motor.

Yesterday when i first bleed it did start smooth two hours later it started rough i bleed again it ran rough today i bleed again it ran rough then i noticed the hoses that connect the injecters was dripping fuel so i fixed that. now idles smooth and runs down the road smooth but while in park if i rev it up and let all the way off it goes died.it will crank right back up every time. it does not go dead coming to a stop though.

my son ran the gas out of my 1997 F250 7.3 Powerstroke i put gas in it and got in fired it up and tried to get home. It is missing and has no power even after a fuel filter change any idea?

 

Well, I would put diesel in it. Not gas. If you put gas in it, you will probably have to purge all the lines and go back with diesel. Yes change the filter also. Hope nothing else happened.

Injector Return Kit Installation.
Injector Installation Kit

Many prefer to toss the o-rings in the kit (and I highly suggest you do) and use these Viton Return O-Rings - McMaster-Carr Item 9464K24, Viton is impervious to Diesel.

For the Injector Installation Kit installation You can follow Starmilts Humorous Fuel Return Replacement Procedure, I like to cut the 6 pieces between the Injectors to 4-1/16", Use a sharp razor blade to cut the hose and Vaseline to lubricate the o-rings.

For proper fuel system bleeding you can use steps 1 through 4 and 13 through 15 of the Fuel Filter Replacement.

i fixed it runs perfect now thanks i had one return line leaking. i took a razorknife and cut a inch off hooked it back up / no more air intrusion thanks for everything i will keep in touch

 

If you don't do a kit, you'll chase your tail on them return lines ... Once disturbed, they just keep failing!

That is why Viton o-rings are recommended, they are impervious to Diesel and can take more heat, yet remain soft and pliable.

Ok thanks ill get the kit as soon as possible how much does one usually cost?

 

The kit I posted above is about $20 + S&H.
The O-Rings I posted above are about $6 + S&H. (cost me $10.61 total)
