bleeding clutch slave cylinder
I'm having trouble bleeding my clutch slave cylinder, ive been working on it for the past four hours and have gotten nowhere. I started out using a vacuum bleeder at first and that wasn't working so then I had a buddy come help me and it still wasnt working. I was wondering if there is some trick I am missing because this is really starting to frustrate me. It's an '89 F-350 diesel.
Thanks

Did you fill the cylinder with fluid before installing it? If not you'll be there all day. Fill it, install, remove the cap and diaphragm (open the bleeder on concentric types) and let fluid run out until no air. Then you can bleed essentially like brakes. Sounds like you just forgot to fill the cylinder first.

well i dont know. i bought it on thursday and the guy said he installed a new slave and it just needed to be bled again so thats what i was trying to do. so what you're saying is that i'll have to remove the slave cylinder and fill it with fluid? do i just fill it where the hose from the master cylinder hooks up? I couldnt even really tell how to remove the slave, it wasnt being held on with bolts or anything that i could see. im fairly mechanically inclined but this is the first time ive every worked with a hydraulic clutch system so its essentially like talking to a five year old. basically the more you can dumb it down the better haha. thanks for the quick reply though, ill get back to it tomorrow when im fresh.
thanks again

hmmm...well i tried that and i lost pressure completely. i must not have been doing it right. I ended up just pumping the piston on the slave by hand which pushed most of the air up through the line and out the master. i was able to get pressure back so i can drive it but it still feels like it has some air in there somewhere.
