Key-in-ignition "warning chime"

2001 Expedition XLT
When I turn it off, take the key out of the ignition and open the driver door, I get the "warning chime" as if the key was still left in the ignition. If I wiggle the ignition a bit, I can get it to stop. But it does this almost every time the truck is turned off. Any ideas?

Yes, I just installed an alarm on my 97 and had the same exact issue if you pull the plastic cover off the steering column you will see a sensor the choice is yours you can either cut the wire (purple/black---97 exp) and forget about the reminder chime or try to push the sensor closer to the ignition to keep the thing from going off. or take out the key ignition and bend the metal tab slightly and be careful not to break it and then replace the ignition (what i did) has not been a problem for the last month. It's an easy fix you can do in less than 30 mins...3 or 4 screws should get the plastic cover off the steering column

Glad to hear that I'm not the only one. Thanks for the scoop FordVARunner! I'll take off the cover and see if there is any play with the sensor. Not sure I want to cut any wires. What did the new ignition cost you?

Anyone else run into this?

Did not have to get a new ignition....I was installing a car alarm and had to install a bypass module ring on the ignition. You will see it just push on the sensor with the key out and the door open the chime should stop.
