thoughts on 6.2???

ok, i have a 02 v10 with 3.73 gears that im thinking of selling to get a 2011 6.2 (eventhough the looks havent grown on me yet)
so heres the deal, i drove a 6.2 w/3.73 gears today for about 30 min.
i was not impressed. sure, when you stomp on it it goes like a scalded cat, but it seems like it has no low end torque or response unless you pop it down a gear. whwn i got back in my truck (which has 35" tires) and drove it i was much happier with the performance.
will 4.30 gears/tuner/exhaust or any combo of those nake a huge difference? im kind of 2nd guessing myself now, i dont want to get "less" of an engine....

Thumbs up

I am an OEM kind of guy...so with that...I recommend the 4.30 gears for you.

I know exactly what you are talking about ( '03 V10 3.73 setup ) ...the torque feel is less...even though 1st gear is much lower.

IMHO...I would wait until 2012+ if you want to keep the 3.73 setup...until the report comes out that FORD is increasing both HP and torque figures for the 6.2L. No offical word yet...but as a FORD guy...I am sure it's coming!

Some of the issue with torque down low is in Fords stock calibrations. see here for more tune info Got a 6.2L V8. Get the 4.30 gears and with some break in miles you will like the new 6.2L truck. I had some of the same feelings when we drove ours from the dealership back in April. I sure some others will give you some feedback.

I think most of what you feel is the fly-by-wire throttle. If you drove a completely stock 3-valve V10, you'd probably be unimpressed too because it too has the fly-by-wire throttle

I had an 03 V10 Excursion with 3.73 gears and my 6.2 with 3.73 gears feels about the same to me. Just as quick and powerful IMO. Yes, it has less torque but it by far makes up for it with better fuel mileage. As far as getting "less" of an engine, that will be obvious because you'll be going from a powerful V10 to a powerful V8 engine. So yes, you'll be getting less of an engine, but a heck-of-a lot more truck with many great features. So it will be some what of a trade off. Trust me, the more you drive the 6.2 the more it'll make you smile.

I drove a 2011 SD with the 6.2 and wasn't impressed. The 6.7 Diesel was much more impressive but I don't tow or pull enough to warrant that set up. The 6.2 seemed to lag big time. The power was OK once it got going but it sounds like it's going allot faster than it is.

Noisy engine for sure.
It reminds me of the very underpowered 5.4 in some ways. I was considering the 6.2 but now I'm not interested at all until Ford builds a better 6.2 or equivalent.
You'd think Ford would build a decent gas engine but why get it right now.
The combination of Power and decent MPG's have evaded Ford once again.
A DOHC and 4 V would be a start. Why a **** poor 2V?
Sorry but I'm not impressed. I bet the mileage isn't very good either.
The Salesman said 15 all around. That probably means 12-13.

If I was to buy a new 2011 it would be the 6.7.

The 6.2 isnt for everybody, but I really enjoy mine. It's got plenty enough power for my needs and applications. My in town mpgs average between 12-14 & my highway mpgs average 14-16 hand calculated. Towing is less.
