Fuel Mileage???

So all the local farmers around here and cattle haulers are always bickering back and forth between, Ford, dodge, Gm. About what they get for fuel mileage. The ford guys say 10-13, the dodge guys say 17-21. and same goes for the Duramax. and this is loaded with a stock trailer full of cattle, what they can legally pull. So who here thinks that the dodge and chevy guys are full of it??? My opinion i call BS!

I call BS from all I have read. Empty yes but not loaded. I have heard some of the same claims but they can never prove it

I read in Diesel Power mag that the new diesels get good mpg empty. Pulling is a different story. Now here goes:

"fuel economy loop with and without trailers, each truck drove loop twice".
Truck empty trailer
F-250 17.61 13.25*
Chevy 2500 20.14 13.53*
Ram 2500 17.49 12.58*
F-350 17.04 12.45*
GMC 3500 17.83 11.02*
Ram 3500 14.75 11.35*

*10k trailer for the 3/4 ton and 12k trailer for the 1 ton
Now I don't know about comparing older trucks with diferent mileage, options, etc, etc. but the new ones are pretty close in mpg.

Yep, I call BS as well.
Once a trailer is hooked up the average is probably about the same between all makes. Empty, I can see the Dodge(Cummins) having an advantage as it has 2 less cylinders to feed. The Chevy(Isuzu Duramax) I'm not so sure why the mileage empty is so good. Also, the Dodge(now known as Ram) and Chevy are quite a bit lighter than the Fords are.

You guys pretty much put the final nail in the coffin! I think the dodge and chevy guys are bluffers, empty yes they are right loaded nope, I jus got done taking my uncles 06 duramax 2500 crew cab on a 500 mile round trip and i averaged 17.4 mpg empty driving 70-75 all interstate. And it has aftermarket exhaust, intake, and a edge products programmer.

I get close to that running empty with my 01 7.3 with the same basic mods, intake, exhaust and chip. My last tank was 16.4. But, that isn't interstate driving either, that is mostly country roads.

I averaged around 12 pulling the camper back from Indiana. I was easy on the throttle at first but by the time I got close to Iowa I was in it pretty hard (about 70-75). Yes, I know Tom does that all the time. I would say I average around 15-16 empty. I have the bigger tires so that eats up some mpg right there.
