I bought a new Raptor about a month ago. The manual says it uses regular fuel. Do any of you know if premium fuel will increase its horsepower? (Not that it needs more) I read that premium fuel in the 2011 Mustang GT increases the HP by about ten. Just curious.
Higher octane fuel can increase hp, but only if you advance the timing. Higher octane fuel does not have more energy per volume; it simply resists detonation.
Hi-The previous statement is true about the regular fuel for your Raptor, UNLESS it has the 6.2 engine . Then , with regular fuel the HP= 401, and with premium fuel HP=411 / This will be self adjusted by the factory computer once the knock sensors see the increased octane . Or, you can get a tuner for either the 5.4 or the 6.2 to further increase performance and trans shift firmness.
thanks -
boss351cj, I have the 6.2 engine, but I'm not sure the extra cost of premium fuel is worth it for ten measly HP, unless I'm doing some serious off roading or drag racing. Thanks for the information!
