5.4L oil pump issues
I came across an interesting piece of info today and I thought I would share it with you guys. Apparently there is an oil pump problem on the 5.4's, 04 and newer. From what I read, which there was not a lot info, this is a poorly designed pump. Ford was so concerned with oiling the timing chain that after there is some wear on the pump it has a hard time making minimum oil pressure. This is critical because low oil pressure is causing everything from cam phaser codes to blown engines. It was suggested in the instance of cam phaser issues to put an oil pressure gauge on and check the actual psi while test driving. I want to reiterate that there was not a lot of info in the bulletin I read, so if there is anyone out there with more info or a Ford tech that knows about this please share there info with us.
