Who knows who holds the paten on drop I beams, not the retail outlet the "Paten holder name"
Patents generally expire between 17 to 20 years from date of issue. More likely than not the patent on the original drop I-beam is past the expiration date. The original patent applicant can be located however.
What particular year are you interested, and the application use, since there has probably been different modifications to the patent?
Well I'm looking for 1977 I figure if I can find the plans on the paten I can make my own I-beams. Planing to pull front clip today and see what I can and can't do.

Not sure I understand where you are taking this project, but see if this helps:
i just wanted to give thanx to Casey for his help. I just got a call from my fab guy and he is going to make me drop beams for $230 out of 1/2 thick steel. We still have to take some serious messurments, but all in all $230 is killer.
