Stuck in 4x4 low please help!

Ok i am a member of fordtruckworld.com and could not get any help from there, so i thought maybe someone here could help.

My main problem right now is that i am stuck in 4x4 low. Orgnially(should have left it at this) my truck would not do anything, no 4x4 high or low lights when i turned the switch.(lights worked when truck is first turned on) I reseached it on the net and came across the idea to tap the Transfer Case Motor. I did this and my truck locked in 4x4 low and would not come out. I kept tapping on it while someone turned the dash switch and nothing, so i ordered a new(rebuilt) motor (160.00!!) I got the new motor today and while installing it(i replaced the 2 speed wires) i turned the switch and it went in 4x4 high but i put it back in 4x4 low in order to bolt the motor to the transfer case.

After i bolted it on i tried to take it out of 4 low(in netural and foot on brake) and it would not disenage. My front hubs will not lock, i am going to get on this after i get it out of 4x4 low(take it to a friends shop so i can lift front end up ect.)I have recently replaced the iwe soilnoid on the passenager side firewall.

Any ideas for be greatly appreciated. Sorry about spelling i am kind of in a fix here, i need a truck to drive! I have checked all fuses.

Drive it a few feet and try again, sometimes it can bind a little bit.

Second the above. Also, trying putting it in neutral, then switch to 4x4 high and put it into gear. If it goes into high you should be able to get it into 4x2 while in gear. 4x4 low is sometimes fickle when it comes to switching back and forth. Good Luck.

How many miles are on the truck and when was the last time you did anything to the transfer case?

That's were the problem starts with theses trucks. Use it or loose it. I engage mine a couple times a month to keep the solenoids, actuators and flux capacitors moving.

That being said, this is the first time I've heard of one stuck in 4x4L. So, you tried putting it into drive, going a few feet, putting it in neutral, putting it in 4x4H and going a few more feet?

I am basically tried everything to get it out of 4x4 low. Pushing it six or seven feet both ways (read on the internet would sometimes work). I am shifting it correctly in netural foot on brake and even incorrectly. I have drove it forward and backward while shifting in and out of 4 low and leaving it in the 4 high position. I am not sure where my problem is i am wondering if it is the switch in the dash?

I would start looking at the motor again, double check wires, mounting etc.

i was going to re install the motor in the morning. Correct me if i am wrong when i remove the motor from the transfer case, i should be able to take the dash switch and move it from 4x4 low to 4x4 high and see the transfer case motor move? ( the small triangular indention on the side of the transfer case motor which bolts to the transfer case.)
thanks

also could i use a test light on the wiring harness of the transfer case motor to test my dash switch?

seethesepitts ------------ why don't you start a new thread and tell everyone what your problem is and what has been done or seen... YES, you can remove the transfercase motor , operate the dash switch, and see the motor rotate... but I don't think that will fix your problem, unless you changing out the motor.

been sitting in my driveway for 2 hrs. Googled 4x4 low and you had the answer. Put my truck in neutral *** turned the switch, and I'm no longer stuck in 4x4 low. Thanks! You're amazing!!

Stuck in 4x4 high

Went disingauge 4x4 high. Turned switch to 2wd and backed up 30-40ft. Truck did not go back to 2wd even after driving around for awhile. Then noticed the switch is loose and has some play in it. I'm hoping thus is a problem with the switch or something in the dashboard.
