Anyone out there with a 4.6 had their plugs changed at the dealership or garage and be willing to say what they paid. Im thinking of taking mine in for plugs, im just reaching 100,000 miles on mine, and im to lazy to do it. Thanks!
Last year I had the spark plugs changed on my 2004 4.6 for $100.00. The spark plugs were $34.72 and labor was the rest of the cost. This was done at a local shop. The mileage on the truck at the time was 82,274.
I checked with a local dealership here in Kansas City. To change the plug they want $260. The tech that does this work recomended cleaning the fuel injection system to clean out the carbon fron the cylinders before changing the plug at a cost of $140. He also told me that if any of the plug broke off while doing the job it would cost $50 per plug. We also talked about the TSB that is out on that and he said that with the fuel system cleaning he has not had a plug break yet. I think I will let them do it this time, instead of me screwing something up.
Same here... ~$300 unless they broke a plug and then the overtime is on me. I thought that was a little unfair as the shop should take some responsibility in proper procedure. I feel that's what I'd be paying for by taking it to the shop... peace of mind that if they break something while it's there, they cover it.
I'm going to just do it myself. If I break a plug, then I'll deal with that later.
My cousin has a F-150 with a 4.6 as a company vehicle. He keeps them 3 years and they have about 215,000-225,000 miles on them. He has never changed a plug and has never had a problem. He drives 70,000-75,000 miles per year.
These quotes for $260 and $300 with extra cost for broken plugs are what is charged for a plug change on a 5.4 with all its problems. The price for a 4.6, which doesn't have the same issues, should be less.
