I have a 1997 Ford f150 regular cab with the 4.2. I was wanting to know any simple/ minor and relatively cheap mods for it something to just hop it up a lil. And i was also gonna ask i have a friend whos f150 is missing paint on the roof like 3 spots can he just have the roof repainted?

 

what exactly do you want to hop up? exterior? interior? performance? 4wd or 2wd? off road use on onroad use?

and of course you can just repaint the roof.

 

easiest mods to boost performance cheaply is better muffler (flowmaster) either a cold air intake or intake mod, and electric fans instead of the engine driven fan.

 

and then theres always a Lincoln navigator conversion...

honestly, the best intake is the stvmo intake with the gotts mod. aftermarket CAIs take in hot air from under the hood. the factory airbox takes in cold air from the fenderwells. the problem with the factory intake is the silencer cone which brings the 3 inch intake down to 2 inches.

 

Ok, first off, A flowmaster will make your V6 sound hollow and tinny. Intake mods might make it louder, but do nothing for performance. E-fan can work, but expect to spend a couple hundred for a good high CFM fan and controller. You want to throw cost out the window and instead get the highest CFM that will fit your application. This mods will do little for you unless you do a lot of highway miles, the fan will cut off at highway speeds, taking the load off the engine and conserving energy, where the stock fan would be a constant parasite. At low speeds, the efan puts a load on the electrical system, which is probably about the same as the stock fan. In the long run the e-fan is probably a good mod, but they are costly if you do it right. If you err on the cheap side, they might work, but if you overheat cause the CFM is too low, they can get extremely costly.

The intake silencer mod is free, and you can undo it if you like.

The muffler I would run if it were mine is a WickedFlow 18SC250. That would sound great, it wouldn't be too loud, the focus would be on the tone and sound, not on how loud it is. Plus is is a straight through design, so if there is any extra performance to be had, it will help you get it.

As I was reading through your post i decided that id probably do a CAI, E Fan, Intake, Headers, A Possable cam, And probably regearing. I would also like to focus on outside appearance a really good preformance look any suggestions?
