Can anyone possibly help me with the rear end gear ratio for my F250? I've looked all over the place and can't track it down. The code is B6, but can't find anywhere that will give me the ratio. The rear end went out and I need to get another one, but can't until I find the gear ratio for it. Thank for any help.

 

put down the code on the tag of the rear axle so we can identify it for you.

 

The info I have says B6 is a 3.73LS for a F150 ...

Is the B6 from your door sticker??

The chart I have gives B6 as a 3.55 limited slip for 83/84.

Is the tag still on the axle as FordNFishinLover mentioned?
The axle may not be the truck's original, so the door sticker might lead you in the wrong direction.

 

I'd be more likely to believe that then what I have ...

B6 = 1983/84 F250 / Ford WFL 8.8" Rear Axle / 3.55-1 / Limited Slip / 4,500 lb. Rear Axle Capacity.

1983/89: The so-called Light Duty F250's used the Ford 8.8 / Without Limited Slip, the F250's Ford 8.8 is known as the WDR.

I just know that someone's gonna chime in and say there ain't no such thing. Since this subject has been brought up several times in the recent past...

Take a gander in the 1980/89 Ford Light Truck Parts Catalog = Text, Section 40, Page 10 of the Rear Axle Applications Charts, and you will see that there was.

If this truck was a so-called Heavy Duty F250, it could have either a Dana 60 or Dana 61.1.

 

ND brings up a very good point. I remember seeing the F250 8.8" axle many years ago. Most semi floaters I saw were the 10.5 though.
Does this truck have a large center that protrudes from the rear wheels, say 2-4", or just enough for the wheels center hole to fit over?

ND, does the F250 8.8 use the same rear axle bearing as the F150 8.8?
I bring this point up due to the fact that this member mentioned the rear axle was run with a low lube level, and if it uses the same bearing, it *could* be the cause of the whining noise they were asking about in another thread.
Of course, even if the axle is a full floating design, the whining could be from the rear wheel bearings.

 

B6= 83/84 3.55 4.50M Ford Limited Slip

 

Just to translate for the OP, 4.50M = 4,500 LBS.

 

While the 10.25 (the 10.50 came in 97 and newer units) is the most common for the 85-96 250's, I do have in my possession an 8.8 axle under a 250 with 8 bolt wheels, so if anyone wants to doubt, I can snap pics...

Ok, I guess I don't have a 8.8, as it has a rear drain plug. It appears to be a Dana 44, without the floating hubs.
