Soften the ride on my 93 F250 4x4?

I have just inherited a 1993 F250 4x4 XL. It's the basic model with a manual transmission, 5.8L engine, 4x4 with manual locking hubs. It is a nice truck but with the front and back springs it is going to ruin my already bad back.

Any suggestions as to what could be done to help me soften the ride without having to spend a lot of cash???

Thanks for your help / suggestions...

You could get some custom springs made.

Remove some leafs from the back but that will also lower the ride height.

These old trucks will never ride like a new one though.

Actually I notice it more from the front end. Someone mentioned to me that going to dual shocks would help - is that true?
