'72 Ranchero - 302 2V: Intake & Carb Questions

As noted I have the 302 2V in my truck. Dual exh. 3-spd manual 3,06 Toploader.

I don't want to pull the engine just yet to install a 351.

Can anyone with some experience with the 302 let me know what would be a good intake mfd and 4bbl carb setup that would fit my engine?

I'd like to retain and use the original Ford air filter housing over the new 4bbl.

Thanks!

Any stock or aftermarket dual plane manifold. Watch for temp sender thread issues even in iron stockers. Watch the front corners, especially in aluminum intakes.

Performance Intake Manifolds

This is Ford specific, showing more torque where you need it from the dual plane all the way up the rpm range, with the single plane providing only a small HP gain at peak revs, which you would be advised to avoid with an aged stocker anyway.

For a carb, a good Ford 4100 or even a Holley 390 CFM will work, stay under 600 cfm.

I have none but:

Autolite 4100-4300 Carb Info - Squarebirds, Rocketbirds, and Fifties/Sixties Ford Discussion Forum

Lots of hits if you search it via google. 4300 more complicated than 4100, that's the short version.

I bought an old iron 289 4V manifold, and a 4100 carb on ebay for under $200. I put a kit in the carb, and I couldnt be happier.

Will this 4100 model work on an old 289/302 intake or an Edelbrock Performer intake:

FORD 470 CFM 4100 C5AF F

I want to stay under 600 cfm

I had a Holley 600 on my 4V manifold before going to the 4100, so yes, the 470 CFM will bolt to an old 4V manifold, or an Edelbrock.

Thanks. I found this mfd on eBay. Can I bolt the aforementioned carb on it. Seller told me it was stored for a number of years but it looks new to me. I'm not sure what the difference is on an old 302 intake like I have on '72 and the newer intakes.

Here's the link to the mfd: NEVER USED OLD STOCK WEIAND FORD 302 INTAKE MANIFOLD: eBay Motors (item 120585497594 end time Jun-25-10 18:10:20 PDT)

Can't find much on them--no bad stuff, just a few sites where guys have them on Chevys for the most part. Probably an ok manifold, but don't pay too much for it. Will it work better than an iron stocker? Don't know, but it will be different.

FWIW, I'd buy the Weiand if it goes for $100.
