2001 Ranger 2.3L CHECK ENGINE
I just had a check engine light come on. Took it to Autozone and here's what the code is: P1537. Intake manifold control fault-bank 1. Valve stuck open, probably cause: mechanical condition or open/shorted circuit condition.

I found this posting reply on another forum for same problem. The part is the Intake Manifold Runner Control (IMRC)
If you have the small 4 cyl engine, I had the same problem. Check the vacuum hose that runs to the control valve on the intake manifold at the fire wall on the drivers side. Mine was cracked and leaking. The port at the intake was also clogged and was cleaned out with carb cleaner. If you have a hand pump vacuum tester you can supply vacuum to the control to make sure the diaphragm is intact and the port is not clogged.
This control restricts intake flow at engine rpm less than 3000 to enhance low end torque. When it is stuck open the butterfly is open all the time and your low end torque is less, but your gas milage is better (my experience). It is not hard to remove the intake and clean it all out around the butterfly to make sure it is not so dirty as to be sticking.

Found the problem
I found the IMRC on the truck. It was not even attached to the intake. The vacuum lines have been routed else where on the truck. Now I need to know which lines belong on the IMRC. Do you guys have a diagram where each vacuum line needs to be attached?

I looked at mine and one vac hose hooks on to a square spot on intake manifold between 2nd and 3rd intake runner(counting back from the front). The other hose goes toward the back of engine and I can't see where from there. The vac diagram shows it going to a actuator toward back of engine or intake. Unable to get under engine to search out where it attaches.

Replacing IMRC valve
I have a 2002 Ranger. After several attempts at checking and replacing the vacuum lines leading to the control valve (even though the old ones still looked good), as well as cleaning the valve, I gave up and bought a new one when the same old codes kept popping up.
While I was installing the part, however, I somehow managed to drop the bolt which attaches this part to the engine, and of COURSE it bounced around several times and conveniently hid itself somewhere on the frame or elsewhere. I spent 20 minutes searching and could not find it
SO my question is, as I don't have a stockpile of metric fasteners around my garage, can anyone tell me the size (diam and length) of this bolt?
