Angry Wiper Motor Removal

I have an 89 F150 Custom and need to replace the wiper motor. I have removed the three bolts that attach the gear reduction box to the firewall and the motor/gearbox assembly is loose. However, I cannot see how to disconnect the gearbox from the bars & such that connect it to the wiper arms... Any suggestions?

By the way, I'd like to congratulate Ford on mounting & installing this thing in the most inaccessible, idiotic manner humanly possible. It must have taken weeks to come up with a way to make it THAT difficult to get this stupid thing out...

Wiper Motor Removal

Aim,

Thanks a bunch, that picture really helps, but how do i get to that clip? There's a cowling below the windsheild that's not shown in that picture. Do I just take it off to get behind there? Will I cause problems with the seal of my windsheild?

Thanks!

yo,
Remove the cowl. It shouldn't mess up the ws seal. It'll also save your fingers from being sliced up. Tape off the painted surfaces to avoid scratching paint; have a rag ready to also protect the ws so it won't be scratched in case the cowl hits the ws.

It makes it way easier to remove the cowl panel if you first loosen the bolts that hold the hood hinges to the firewall. This allows the hood to move towards the front of the truck which makes for more clearance to remove the cowl panel. Mark the hinges first so you can get them back in the same place. Loosen the bolts til they only have a few threads holding them in still.

The easyest way to get the cowl off is to remove the trim around the bottom of the window. You neet a tool to unlock the clips. Parts store should have them in the help section. Be care fule i brock the window and bent the cowl. on the bronco i stole the wiper motor out of.

Wiper Motor Removal

Well, I removed the cowl and everything was much easier. It took me about an hour & a half to get the old motor the rest of the way out & the new motor in.

I actually didn't have to mess with the hood bolts or the windsheild trim at all. If you remove the screws that hold the antenna in place, then you can slide the cowl forward out from under the trim and then backwards out from under the hood. There's enough antenna wire to let the cowl lean against the passenger side of the truck while you finish the job.

Thanks for the help!
