Value/Specs - 1980's F100/150

My dad heard about an early 80's F100/150 for sale in our area. He is interested in taking a look at it, but he wanted to know some of the specs and the approx. value of it. It is owned by an elderly woman. It has 40,000 orig. miles. No rust. He was told it has a 300 6 cyl. and they think it is an automatic. It has a yellow and brown two-tone paint job that is original.

Given the information I provided, what trim (Custom, XLT, Ranger XLT) do you think it is? What rear end would it most likely have in it? He is fairly interested in this truck and would also like to know what it might be worth. Thanks!

That's pretty low mileage. It's hard to give an approximate value since you're not sure how well it runs.Pics would help too.As far as what trim, just the description you gave won't be able to tell.Color of the truck doesn't indicate a trim,my Custom F100 base model truck has a factory Brown/Beige two tone with more gold flakes than I can count.I can say that the Custom and Ranger trim levels were only used in 1980-1981.In 1982 The Custom turned into the base model,Ranger into the XL,Ranger XLT into the XLT,and Ranger Lariat into the XLT Lariat. If it says Ranger or Custom on the fenders,it's most likely an 80-81.If it only has emblems denoting F150 or F250,it's most likely an 82-86.You can also tell the package by looking at the Radio Bezel,if it's original. As for rear end,if it's an F100-F150,it will have either a 9" or 8.8" rear. From what i've seen most earlier trucks had 9",later trucks got the 8.8".I think they started throwing in 8.8's around 83-84.

A pic would be of great help if at all possible.
