I was wondering how feasible it would be to haul a smaller motorcycle in the bed of a Ranchero. I have a Triumph 650 with a wheelbase of approximately 55.75 and a weight around 400 lbs. Tailgate down, I'm sure.
I'm talking about using it when the bike needs work, not a full time hauler to events and stuff. Perhaps some years are more suitable than others? I've searched but to no avail so I hope I'm not wasting anyone's time when there's an existing thread.

400 lbs, no problem.

Any year you like, keeping in mind the older the unit the more issues and smaller the cab is, & the shorter the inside of the bed.

Tie downs?

I think I'd like to drive a '71 with a 302 and a 4 speed, just to see how it would work...If you could find one, if they made one....

 

Which would you like, the Ranchero 500 (12,678), Ranchero GT (3,632), or the Ranchero Squire (2,595)?

These were the only '71 Ranchero's available with a V8.

6,041 of the plain jane I-6 Ranchero's were assembled.

Personally, I prefer the 1967's. I never cared for the "Bunkie" Knudson snouts on 1970/71's, especially the T-Bird's.

The Deuce didn't care for them either. After he viewed the 1970 T-Bird's, he fired Knudson on the spot, but it was too late to change the styling.

 

Dude you'll have no problem hauling the cycle around. Back when I was much younger and thought my 69 Ranchero was indestructable, I hauled things that only a fullsize truck probably should. The 302 did pretty good and didn't lose much power with a load of furniture, hide-a-beds, entertainment centers ect. I would never haul anything more than pillows or groceries with her now, though. I don't like scratches on my baby.

 

I liked the beaked birds. I had 3 70's. They were bad *** cars. I had one 140 MPH a long time ago. That bird flew! Much better car than any bird since (at least the next 20 years)

 

i actually hauled 2 bikes in the bed of my 65. one was complete and the other was in pieces.....it worked out well

 

I hauled my sand-drag Banshee all the time in my '70. No problem at all, the 302 put out good power and the brakes were stout as heck.

 

My '78 hauls an on-road/of-road bike with room to spare. Just use some quality tie downs.

 

my 54 Harley pan fit's the back of my 68 GT428 with room for my 71 Norton commando , the triumph will be happy back there ..
