Hey guys and gals, I just figured I'd start a thread on my build rather than a bunch of individual threads... I'll add as I go along

I bought this ol girl on Feb 23rd '10
1960 F250 4x4, 223 6...
Drove er on and off the trailer...

Took off all the ugly plow garbage and turned the blade and frame in for $21 haha...


I took a Haul to Rhode Island and picked up a cab from a '59 F100 that's in much better shape and will save me a lot of time and $


I pulled all the body parts from the frame... Luckily all the fluid slung from the plow pump kept everything in good shape!


I then wire brushed, degreased, washed, wire brushed degreased washed etc etc the 50 years of grime... and used Eastwoods rust encapsulator and a couple coats of chassis black

And this is how she sits now... I also have the other cab rewired and found the original AM radio stuffed in the dash!! The bed and nose need little work...
Engine got some TLC too

You work fast! Looks great. If you need anything parts wise, I've parted a few out.

 

Haha, Thanks Andrew... I think the only parts I'm gonna need at this point is the sheet metal for the steps, rockers and lower rear front fenders and a little misc. sheet metal for some minor repair... The new cab is in great shape that I can see now and everything else seemed to be in working order before I tore er down allthough I hadn't taken er down the road yet... So we'll see,

Oh I also rebuilt the Carb due to a horrible hesitation, it seems someone did it before and creased the acc. pump diaphram upon putting it back together...

 

I assume you painted the engine.

FYI: Ford Corporate Blue was not used until 1966.

All 1960/65 Car/Truck engines were painted black, as were the air cleaners, oil pans.

1952/65 OHV engines: The valve covers were painted specific colors, because this is how Ford identified what size the engine was.

 

Thanks Bill, Before I painted the engine I was wondering what color it was supposed to be... It was yellow after I cleaned it and bare metal beyond that so someone must've painted it before too. I wasn't going for a factory resto at this point just clean enough and to my liking as I will be keeping it... People might turn thier noses and say I should've done it black but I like the engine blue...

I will also be painting the firewall black as well as the inner fenders and the firewall should be the main color I think but I still haven't decided on the color...
I might be spraying it dark highland green like my '01 F150 as I want it a little more flashy than the dull holly green it's supposed to be, but not too flashy

 

Looks great in blue! Pay no mind to the nay-sayers, things not completely in the box scare them, lol. Always funny when it doesn't matter in the slightest, not like it can't be repainted if they bought it or something, and even then, whats it to them? It's like complaining about a strangers shoes to them or something...


I think dark highland green would be beautiful on that truck. I love that color, looks smoking sweet on the '67-68 Mustangs as well (ie Bullitt) and it's one of those colors that looks like it could be original.

 

Posting correct factory info is not being a naysayer, except maybe for those that do not know any better.

If the OP wanted it "as original" ... blue is not correct.

Since he likes the blue and does not care if it's original, that's jake with me.

 

maybe look at the dark green dodge uses on the pickups. my buddy has a 96 cummins and i kinda like that color. or maybe even a shade more blue.

 

I am a Ford engine blue guy myself. I put a 1969 351W in my 56 F-100 and painted it blue. Put a 1988 2.9 Bronco II engine in my 1962 MGA and painted it blue. Put a 1991 5.0 Mustang gt in my 1967 Mustang Fastback and painted it blue. So I guess either I really think Ford engines should be blue or I have a lot of Ford blue engine paint.

 

Wait, I wasn't trying to say Bill was a nay-sayer, I sincerely appreciate the fact he took the time to post the factory engine paint schemes and even went into detail about other years (good info, and impressive that you know) I was wondering if it was supposed to be yellow or not cuz that's what was on there and my question was answered without me asking it!... I was simply saying that there are gonna be some old timers or factory resto guys that might say "Uchhh what an idiot, thing's supposed to be black" but who cares, I like it

59Flatbed I do wanna stick with a Ford factory color, I may be straying away from the factory specs but I'm Ford to the core (but accept all makes, I dont put my friends down for having a dodge or whatever else, It gives me something to work on )

And thanks Steven, I'm really steering towards the Dark highland, and it's supposed to be holly green so at least I'd be sticking with a green...

As long as Baldexpdvr is around we might wanna invest in some Ford blue engine paint stocks Haha

 

Oh and the STP oil filter matches nicely too huh? I didn't plan for that

BTW I love the blue looks great, But surprizingly the yellow is possibly the original color for the motor. I had a person show me a Ford Motor Co flyier for 1956 engine options at a show and all of them were yellow. So this engine couldhave never been touched. I am not trying to hyjack your thread with a engine color debate just wanted to point out it could be original. Great find I love these trucks.

 

Emile, what sort of parts do you have. I have another identical truck i am working on, actually several of them. Let me know. Thanks, I am in Nor Cal.

 

I have the lower rear patch panels for the front fenders. Everything else I had is sold. Right now on ebay is every patch panel available for 57-60 cabs. Auction ends in a couple days. Thanks, Emile
