I would bet anyone here that they couldn't drive an unmodified F4 at over 2750rpm for over two hours - at ANY SPEED, without turning to pudding!


I would agree with you completely. With my previous smaller tires, My truck ran at 2600 rpm at 65mph. It was unbearable for more than 20 minutes. Now it drives at 2300 rpm. I have yet to drive this one over 60 miles. September San Diego to Napa!

But I drove my 55 with a 3spd overdrive and it drove 65 at 2100 rpm. I drove it many times from San Jose to San Diego (about 450 miles) many times and it took me days to stop feeling like I had been trompled by horses!

Julie, I had a warm 390 in my 65f250 and it would run 3000 all day and night without a hickup..I'd run out of gas well before that and my ears would be bleeding being locked in the tin can. But it handled it well, I think as a society we are not used to running engine at upper RPM for long periods of time.... I was extremely uncomfortable running my 63 alpine at 3800 rpms but that's the way they were designed..

 

The guy is replacing 700 lbs of genuine Ford with over 700 lbs of electric motor and batteries. I see the advantage, sure he might be able to charge the batteries at his home, which would probably take two days unless he has ten battery chargers. He saying he's going to have more power than the stock engine but it's going to cost a lot more to get it. I think he should hug a tree some other way than to butcher up a nice truck, JMO.

The worse part of it is he's losing the flattie sound, that's just a crime against all things natural.

How green is it to add all those batteries when they die into the environment? Face it, what we are doing to these trucks by driving and restoring them is one of the "greenest" things we can do in this country. We use what a few hundred gallons of petro a year at the most, to drive them.... compare that to the carbon footprint of making a "new vehicle" We are the ultimate recyclers....

And I agree with Julie 100% you couldn't pay me to sit in that F4 cab...

 

hee hee , norville yer funny !!!!!!!!! when mine runs i drive it everyday , everywhere !!!!!!!! i put , at least , 40 -50 gallons a week sometimes more through my ol' girl { yes i drive that much in it }. and she will be running again real soon !!! then the 95 4.6 bird will go into semi retirement .. oh yeah i got 8.5 to 9 aberage for fuel economy , and worse on the open road due to the gearing . the bird gets 18-24 in town depending on my driving style and last week on a little trip i got 33.7 mpg on the road with it . the truck is more fun , classier , more charming , and just suit's me so .... all you green peacers line up and i'll run ya over on the way out . and yes i am making fun of them they don't have a clue !!!!!!!!!. get the 52 home and legal i'll have two flatties to putter 'round in !!!! i'm making less in emissions even with all the driving 'em everday than it takes to make one of the "green hybrids " and then as mentioned the toxic waste of their batteries , the emissions it still produces , so they can keep 'em !!!!!!!!!!!!! there i hoped i made a greenpeacer mad at me , gotta have someone p.o'd at me daily or it ain't right !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

 

well its an interesting project for sure. I think its kinda a neat ideal but dont think i would so it (half the fun of old trucks is hammering the go pedal and hearing the glasspacks crackle.) its a intersting adaption of technology and i for one say keep us updated on the progress.

 

Stated it weighed 2650 lbs. w/ flattie at local certified scales ? It wouldn't weigh 2650 without the engine . Maybe 4650 .Am i missing something or is he on crack ?

Count me in against the the hippy tree huggers!!! I wanted so badly to put on my facebook on earthday that I drove my 9 MPG truck just to tick off the green peacers!! Where do they think all this electric and stuff comes from. Also, you dont see too many electric powered tractors, snowblowers, or any other heavy equiptment. Its a crock!! Whewwwww, I'll step off my soap box for now..........
