2001 Ford F-150 timing chain replacement

You guys have a ton of experience and I hope someone here has tried this at work or on your vehicle. I have a friend that recently lost the timing chain on this truck it has about 120k on it. He wants me to help him replace the timing chain and I am not sure how big a project this may be.

Is this something that you can do in your garage at home? If so any drawback or advice you can give me?

It is a 5.4 triton v8.

Thanks in advance for your advice!

Who diagnosed this timing chain failure, and what were the symptoms? The timing chains on the modular series engines are a very durable part-it's normal to expect 300K+ miles out of them. If he did indeed fail a timing chain, then there are likely many more problems than just a failed chain. It can be changed in about 4 hours if you know what you're doing, about 8 if you're a newbie that has a basic understanding of mechanics. If you are completely lost on what to do-plan on a weekend.
