A = Raven Black / M = Wimbledon White.

F100 2WD, 5,000 lbs, GVWR

D81: D = Medium Beige Crush Vinyl & Medium Beige Cody Pattern Woven Plastic // 81 = 81B Custom Cab.

G = MX Cruise-O-Matic.

17 = Ford 9" Rear Axle / 3.25-1 / non Limited Slip / 3,300 lb. Rearle Capacity.

172197:

17 = Washington DC Ford District Sales Office, where the original selling dealer ordered the truck from.

2197 = Domestic Special Order number. Your truck was special ordered by the original purchaser, not "bought off the lot."

When there is no COLOR code, the truck was painted a non standard color. When this occurs, the truck would be a special order.

Original applications: 1977 Ford Granada / Mercury Monarch / Lincoln Versailles, all w/a 351W.

7F28 = Assembled June (F) 28, 1977 (7).

D9PZ9A586K .. Carburetor Kit (Motorcraft CT1261)

So I can take from his decoding that my 66 Crew is:

F25BC834394

F 250

C Oakville Ontario Canada

(Help me out with the 834 bit)

129" wb.

M color code (thinking Off White.. Ford code is coming to me but slowly...)

481 says "beater with a heater" e.g. not custom cab.

5800# GVWR

150hp/3600 rpm 300 c.i.d. 6

DSO
720695

F= t-18

B5 = 4.10 LSD...

Did I get her?

A little help with the DSO and an idea of Birth date off production number would be killer!

Looks like you have a bunch of the info already,but here's the decode:
F10 = F100 2 wheel drive truck. B = 300 cubic inch 6 cylinder 1 bbl engine. N = built at Norfolk, Virginia. 746288 = built in September, 1965. 115 = wheelbase in inches. 5M = two tone paint. M = Wimbledon White. 5 may well be Signalflare Red based on your research and the thread by Boss9. However, one would expect a Domestic Special Order number for special paint at the end, and you didn't list it. F100 = 5000 lb GVW half ton truck. E81 = Custom Cab with red crush vinyl and red cody pattern woven plastic upholstery. C = 3 speed manual light duty transmission.
08 = Ford 9 inch non limited slip differential with 3.50 gears. 5000 lb GVW. 150 NET horsepower achieved at 3600 rpms. DSO 26 = ordered by Washington DC sales office. If there are four additional numbers after the 26 then it was a domestic special order. Hope this helps.

Ooops, I screwed up in the last thread. If your truck were a domestic special order for special paint, there would be NO ENTRY in the paint spot on your door tag. Number Dummy would have earn me for breakfast! As mentioned in the Boss9 thread, 5M is a pretty unusual paint code.

[quote=salvaged66;8795109]Thank you for all the information. Being that this was a special order, is there a way to determine the original color?[/Take the gauge cluster off should be original color behind it. You can also check behind radio bexel.

F100 2 tone

SuperSabre, thanks for the info!! Do you know if the 2 tone was always more red than white? Mine is actually the opposite.

The paint chart is Passenger Car related. Only 5 of these colors were also used on trucks, where are the other 7?

I have the original FoMoCo parts counter paint chip chart (the chips are glued to the page) for 1966 that covers Passenger Cars, Trucks, Bronco's and Econolines.

COLOR CODE = PAINT NAME ~ Trucks, Bronco's & Econolines.

A = RAVEN BLACK

B = CARIBBEAN TURQUOISE (no see um)

C = PURE WHITE (no see um)

F = ARCADIAN BLUE

G = CHROME YELLOW (no see um)

H = SAHARA BEIGE

J = RANGOON RED (no see um)

L = HOLLY GREEN (no see um)

M = WIMBLEDON WHITE

W = MARLIN BLUE (no see um)

3 = SKYLIGHT BLUE (no see um)

8 = SPRINGTIME YELLOW

This original (paper) page this chart was taken from appears to be faded, so the actual colors will not match.

You cannot go by digital internet pics of colors either, as some/most will not match in the real world.

You probably should have originated your own thread instead of tagging onto one that's three years old and might easily have been overlooked - however, since you're here, I'll give you what information I can: F10 = 2 wheel drive F100 truck. J = 240 cubic inch, 1 bbl I-6 engine. N = built at Norfolk, VA plant. 613375 = built in November, 1964. 115 = wheelbase in inches. O = exterior color Tropical Turquoise. Model 6100 is an error. Should say F100 = 5000 pound GVW rated half ton truck. D81 = Medium beige crush vinyl and light beige Cody pattern woven plastic upholstery (That's for a '66 - '65 is slightly different pattern.) in a Custom Cab. A = 3 speed manual light duty trans. G2 is probably an error. C2 = Dana 44 limited slip differential with 3.73 gears. You left off the bottom line of your warranty plate, but it's pretty self explanatory except for the DSO. Hope this helps!

AXLE code cannot be G2 unless it's an F500/750 with an Eaton two speed rear axle.

1965 D81: D = Light Beige Crush Vinyl & Medium Beige Ladder Pattern Woven Plastic / 81 = 81B Custom Cab.
