I have a 93 explorer that when I back up the front wheels bow out drastically. I replaced the control arm bushings... didn't help.

Any help is appreciated!!

 

Please give more details or a picture on what you are referring to as bowing out.

The tops turn in and the bottom turns out as well as the back seems to turn in a little.

Got a pic but cant find how to insert it...

 

1. I have a 93 2-wheel drive and I had camber bushings (I think they are called) replaced vs factory bushings that would allow adjustments. This allowed them to adjust my front tires straight up that sagged inward at the tops.

2. I installed Radius arm bushings that were bad and would cause a thump from shifting from reverse to forward but no bowing or sagging.

3. My understanding is that up-loads of attachments are not available with the free version of this message board. But! With certain software you can up-load here or you can post your address to your attachment here. One of the more experienced users here with the needed software might post your Picture.

4. Your problem sounds interesting if not dangerous if I am visualizing what you are saying. Have you had the explorer on a lift to check all of the front-end’s parts? Something sounds loose or badly worn.

all the twin i-beam 4x4 truck had this issue, f150, ranger, explorer. when you pull foward it looks fine right? its just the way the i-beam suspension sits when you put a reverse load on it. it might look a little worse the older the trucks get due to wear. i had a 95 F150 that i bought new and i backed into my parking space at work and i thought i had a problem but its normal.

 

Lame Me! I never thought of having Twin-I-Beams. Is this a 4X4 issuer or 2 wheel drive also? I feel I would have noticed this if it was a noticeable matter. I have good hours working on the Explorer and working with the Explorer vs high miles. I backed out and took Pics and did not see any problems.

I glanced for an easy method of sending pictures,”Again” and by Private Message or E-mail by left clicking on my name (upper left and exchanging e-mails seems to be the option). Most of all “thedawnsc”, I feel “mrford60” has helped both of us and solved the question.

MrFord... you are dead on. It is a 4X4 and when I pull forward they come back into alignment (most of the way).

Hard to believe it is normal... but I trust you. My father bought it to work on (232,000 miles) and passed away. I was trying to get it working well enough to sell but that problem looked so far out of the norm it worried me.

I did replace the radius are bushings hoping to fix it, but didn't seem to effect it.

I would suggest photobucket for uploading your pictures, its free to register and free to upload. then you can copy a direct link to the pic and paste it into your poste via the little button that looks like a mountain with the sun in the upper right corner.

1993 Explorer's rear end oil @ 115,000 miles Pic I Hope!

I'm sorry! It is Free Photobucket.com that I have my album created in. Plus, I feel I might be making some progress. My problem appears to be using the hot-keys ctrl +c or ctrl+v to copy and paste url or img.

1. Attached hopefully! Is an url address (changed by s/w) that will take you to a Pic of where I checked and examined my rear end oil at 115,000 vs having time to chance it.

2. I saw nothing to be alarmed about. What appeared as dark particles was not metal and w/n attract to a strong magnet.

3. It would have been easier to change than check if I had planned and had oil, additive if needed and sealant.

4. The plug/magnet on the mid topside of the rear end is a Monster to remove with the trucks wheels on the floor.
