Is your turbo shot? Have you installed the kit yet? This is interesting, maybe you could write up the process?

Does the assembly have to be re-balanced after the rebuild is done?

I am tempted to attempt the rebuild and the stealth delete at the same time.

Sorry dude, it's not in Arizona it's in Springdale, Arkansas about 75 miles up the road from me.

Cartmanea. I didn't rebalance mine as the nut goes right back to where it was originally installed (at least on mine).

As far as the rebuild process goes, it's tricky and requires a lot of attention to detail, although it looks (and really is) simple for the most part. Just don't use any cleaner on the bearings as it will ruin them. Take LOTS of pictures and TAKE YOUR TIME. If you've gone through the vane cleaning process then rebuilding isn't that much more.

Name of the company in Springdale...

Anybody got that name? The link seems to be dead.

If you need a kit shoot me a PM and I'll hook you up with someone that has a brand new kit they'd like to sell. He needed a turbo instead of a kit. Probably a great price too.

Are you in Arkansas or Arizona, Joe?

I would go with Tim (npccpartsman) if I were you!

If that doesn't work out, the link isn't completely broken:

I'm in Arkansas - it gets confused a lot - got hired for a job once because they thought I lived in Arizona - didn't last long...

I don't know if I need the kit of the whole thing. It just started acting up so I haven't taken it down or anything. I saw other threads about rebuilding so it seemed worth a shot. Advice?

Kewl. Check out the Arkansas chapter of FTE. Super nice bunch of guys with some really kewl trucks. I'll get you hooked up with the guy with the kit. What's your turbo doing? If you're close to Ft. Smith, holler and I'll be glad to take a look for you.

Didn't know there were chapters... Sounds great! I'm new to diesels and got an F250 about 3 years ago - just now learning about the problems so I need all the help I can get.

Had to have the head gaskets replaced over the last couple of weeks while on the road pulling a 5th wheel - no fun! The guy told me the turbo might have issues because of moisture from the head gaskets and a pinched o-ring during the rebuild. I got it home and it started making a noise (pulsating whump) when I backed off the pedal. Posted on here and had someone suggest the turbo. Past two days had it cut out a couple of times and blow a lot of black smoke. Pulled into a truck lube and tire shop in Joplin and had someone listen to it - said it sounded like the turbo. Called the guy that rebuilt it and he said it sounded like the turbo. So, it sounds like the turbo...

I might just take you up on the look-see; I'm up in Rogers. As much as I'm dropping into this thing just to keep it running, multiple opinions can't hurt!

He probably just cleaned it. Give me a holler and I'll take a look and show you some things you can easily do for yourself.

Sounds great! I'll have to see when I can arrange to get down there. In the mean time, (this may be a stupid question) should I park this thing to avoid further damage or is it okay to drive and just put up with it?

I did notice at one point the PSI guage stayed on 0; made me wonder if the bushings were going bad causing the fans to "hang".
