Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF

Just used this stuff to change my transfer case fluid. Took 2-1/4 quarts BTW.
Mobil 1 Synthetic Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF)

Reading the bottle, and the above web page, Mobil says it replaces Mercon, Mercon V, and Mercon LV! It also notes that it is NOT a recommended replacement for Mercon SP.

As we know, Ford says LV now replaces SP. We also know that Mercon V will destroy the servos in the Torqshift. So how can it be that Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF can be a replacement for Mercon V, and Mercon LV, but not be suitable for SP applications?

Just tossing this out for discussion. Your thoughts?

I too had the same thought...but it didn't stop me from using it in both the transfer case and powersteering box. If you were blind-folded and ask to (smell) tell the difference between Mercon SP and Mobil1 ATF...
you would not have a clue. They smell and look the same, except one bottle is gray and the other is red. Interesting...

Same thought here. I would use it in the p.s. pump but would be scared to use it in the tranny. What is the advantage vrs. the risk? I don't personally see one.

Just my opinion, but I think it would be perfect for a manual.
