I have an '85 Bronco II with the 2.8 engine and AT. I have noticed that the heater blower motor does not really put out very much air except on the highest setting. It has a 4 position switch, but I can tell very little difference in the first three settings.
On the highest position setting there is pretty good air flow but maybe not as much as it should be. Is there a way to adjust this without replacing motor...And if not, how much is involved in replacement? Thanks very much. I enjoy this forum!

 

The first thing to do is to remove the heater bower motor. it is just three tiny bolts in the engine compartment near the cab on the passanger side. Very often this will be filled with leaves and all sorts of other stuff that will restrict airflow. If you are only getting high speed for your blower then it is most likely the blower motor resistor. There are lots of posts on this problem as it seems to be very common so you can search for it for some good information. (Basicly its a pack of resistors) It is located close to the blower motor. It has a 6 sided plug with about 5 (?) wires goin into it. Its another easy thing to replace. i got one from a junkyard for 5 bucks. i dont know what ford charges. If you think its somewhere else in the circuit i can give you the testing procedure but you will need a multimeter or self powered test light. Hope this helps some.

 

Thanks for the reply. I removed the blower motor and there
were no leaves or debris inside. I removed the resistor pack and there were some leaves in there that I vacuumed out. I inspected all the coil wires and there were no obvious breaks or burned places but I suspect this unit is the problem. I checked and could not find an aftermarket source....so I guess I will check with the local junk yards. I don't want to pay Ford dealer prices!

I believe the part you are looking for is quite standard for a Ford and readily available at your friendly neighborhood boneyard. I know I picked up a couple plus the connector on one of my trips.

 

I picked up a resistor pack today from a local yard. That was the problem, and now the fan works fine. $2 well spent. Thanks for your help!
