Is there a trick for keeping Naoh in liquid form after reaction? I normally use Koh but I got some Naoh delivered by my source and he told me just to keep it. So im trying to use this but dont want the Gly. to harden in my processor. I have heard that doing a 5% prewash would keep it liquid but wanted some verification. I usually let it settle overnight, just dont want to wake up in the morning and have a bucket of solidified Gly to cleanout. Thanks Maxx

 

I would say to let it settle for an hour or so after processing, and then drain the glycerol. Naoh drops the soaps way faster than KOH does, so there's no need for overnight settling. Even with the 5% prewash, I wouldn't let Naoh glycerol sit in the plumbing overnight. Depending upon your overnight temps, it could still solidify.

 

Thanks for the reply. Im not a regular user of Naoh but I had thought about settling until the mix cooled to around 90 (which would take a couple of hours) and then drain. Never been clear on how long to settle before draining using Naoh. Thanks for the input. Maxx
