Yea but the only thing i thought about that is that the air will be restricted a little bit. I am trying to get as much free flowing as i can. I was think if i took a why pipe an cut out the inside so it flows in to the to tubes but there is no wall there i am not sure yet i have not really looked at a y pipe yet to do so. Did u seen an thing like power mpg with doing custom cai? Dose your filter look like this K&N Product Information by Part

What you could do is do a search in the 99-2003 7.3 section, you'll be able to get an idea how the guys up their fabed up their cold air boxes.

i'd call that a hot air intake . filter isn't blocked off from engine bay heat or in the fenderwell or .. to draw cooler air . the term cold air intake should be a clue . your sucking more air but it's hot ...............
