Wiper Arm Removal?

My driver side wiper arm comes down too far and taps the windshield frame. Obviously this is highly annoying. I figured if it's anything like my F-150, the arm has been removed at some point and just got put on slightly out of place. I thought if I could remove it, I could reposition it. Trouble is my Haynes manual is less than helpful. It says to raise the arm and use a 3/32" punch in the hole specifically designed to release it, and NOT to use a screwdriver. Trouble is it doesn't show a picture and I don't see anything that looks like a hole designed to release the arm.

Does anybody know how to do this? I figure it can't be too hard, but it certainly doesn't work the way it does on my 95. Anybody got a picture, video, something?

Thanks!

These certainly can be a pain in the aXX, right under the arm itself where it sits on the post you will see a small steel tab that goes down over the splined wiper arm post, you need a small screw driver to pry the tab open and lift the arm at the same time. If they haven't been off in a long time you may want to soak them in penetrating oil for a day. I have wrapped the arm with a rag and used a pair of pliers to remove the tuff ones but you can scratch the area under the arm pretty easy if you are not carefull. Good luck.

That's what I was afraid of. I guess I'll see if I can find a longer narrower screwdriver and go back to work. Thanks!

Put a few rags under and around the arm. Pry that tab back a bit and pull up like the dikens. It will come off.

Yeah, I was able to get it. I still managed to ding up my paint a little though. The truck has been painted before and I'm sure it was done cheaply by some idiot so it's not the most durable. Later tonight I'll be seeing if I can find something to match it. I think it's close to the original color.

I think I got the wiper issue resolved though anyway. Thanks all!
