Hi all,

I have an 07 el with powerfold 3rd row and the drivers side is stuck down.

I've used these powerfold seats maybe 20 times in the 3 years we've owned the truck. The passenger side single seat works fine and when I press the button for the driver side, the lights dim, but no noises or movement occur.

Has anyone had this happened before, if so, what's the fix?

reach up under there and see if something (toy/tool) has gotten jammed in the linkage.


I was thinking a fuse...but you said the lights are dimming. So I think we can safely rule that out

 

If the lights are dimming their is current going to the switch. Try this. While pushing the button, have someone lift up or push down a bit on the seat. Wiggle it a little bit and see if that doesn't help. The motor may have failed or gotten stuck.

 

I've reached under the seats as far as possible and can't feel or see anything wedged in there. I also tried lifting the seat while my wife was pushing the button to raise it, to no effect. There is defnitely power going to the motor but it just isn't responding.

Anyone know how to remove the seat? Surely there's a way to get that beast out of there in such a case, or even a manual override of the motor?

 

You can pull the flap open and see the motor. While working the switch, cover the motor with a towel and tap on it. This works on stuck motors. Don't hit it so hard as to dent the metal. Your motor or track may be fried/stuck.

 

Very cool! Didn't realize the motor was behind the back flap. I wanted to get to the motor just to make sure that I was actually getting power to the motor and to check things out.

 

Any resolution on this? My wife's 07 mountaineer has the same issue.... so bang on the motor? When i press the button, it lifts and inch, then stops. Thinking i need to replace the motor.

 

The seat might be bound some how. While pushing the button, lift or push somewhat on the seat to help it a bit.

 

oh yeah, that's the first thing we tried....don't think it's stuck on anything.

 

I could have sworn I had replied back with the resolution months ago. Anyhow, I did as Berry suggested and "manipulated" the motor and the seat came right up.

Basically, the motor isn't attached super firmly and when moving the seat up and down it can get "wedged" in such a way that the motor cannot move down the track. I didn't even have to hit it with a hammer, just used my hand and was able to get it working again.

 

Interesting... Will try. Sounds like a popular defect... I wonder if there was a better design in future models.

 

I bought a first year expedition back in 97 and it was plagued with annoyances as well (brakes too small, radiator too small, etc) because the truck was so much larger than the explorer, but they re-used parts instead of properly engineering new parts.

I'm sure it's the same story with the 07. Manufacturers just can't (won't) take the time to actually properly engineer something so you end up with stuff like this (and chrome clad wheels that suck, air conditioner that doesn't work at idle in summer, plastic seals that don't fit on the exterior B -pillar, A/C box that leaks under the passenger dash, A/C seats that don't cool, seat motors that squeak, etc).

I should have known better than to buy a first year truck (EL model) but with baby on the way you make the decisions you have to make

While you are ranting so can I. I have had all the same issues, PLUS... Do you know your spare tire is only a 17". Have you checked the tailgate, I had mine repainted at 27K due to bubbles. The drivers seat track took five months to fix. At 41k I have just replaced the rear turn/brake bulbs for the third time. Join the club I guess.

the 03-10 Expy were the test bed for the 04-10 F-150. Every innovation the F-150 saw, the Expy got first.

in 07 Ford changed the rear suspension slightly for the heavier weight of the EL option. some slight sheet-metal changes and dress-up. but nothing majorly changed for engineering.

Sometimes you get a good one...and sometimes not. Maybe yours was built on a Friday? For the most part, the 07-10 Expy is nothing more than a 03-06 Expy with newer parts. It's a pretty well engineered and proven design IMO

 

I just wanted to thank you for the discussion thread. I was finally able to find it through a google search. You saved me over $500! I just lightly tapped the motor while pressing the button and what do you know.... the seat finally came up.
