99' 5.4 rebuild kit
Well heres the deal, just in the last 4 weeks my 5 4 has been going through the oil. Its not going on the ground. I've heard, what I thought was a lifter, now I think its something bigger. It used to quiet down after it warmed, but now its clacking all the time. I have since parked it and am looking to find a good rebuild kit. If im gunna do this, mite as well amp it up a bit. Does anyone have any leads on what I should do. The truck is gunna live its life pullin racecars to the track and a fifthwheel camper.

Before yanking the engine out and tearing it down, were you going to do any diagnostic testing to find out of you need a rebuild? At minimum I would start with a compression test and an engine oil analysis. This will tell you the condition if your rings, valve seats and bearings.
The tapping noise may be an exhaust manifold leaking, a cam follower (lifter), or a lot of things that have nothing to do with your loss of oil.
But if you just want to waste money march on, you're heading the right direction.
