Auto tranny reverse band adjustment

I have the astg manual, and it seems like the only adjustment to the reverse band is the reverse servo rod. I honestly cannot remember from last year when I had it out of the truck. I know there is a screw/locknut combo for the overdrive and intermediate bands. I was expecting something like that for the reverse too. Can anyone confirm this before I pull the tranny?

Let's bump it and see.

What's astg?

Did you pull the tranny yet?

I am assuming you have a delayed engagement or slipping on reverse? If so the adjustment is just a one time adjustment when the new bands are first installed. Modern bands are quite thin, and by the time they start slipping, they are usually toast and need to be replaced.

ATSG is the Automatic Transmission Service Group (I spelled it wrong). They make transmission manuals that are really amazingly good. ATSG Home Page You can buy them from them directly or sometimes from tranny supply stores locally (like I did).

Tranny pulled and replaced with a used one. new one is working great. The adjustment for the reverse band is the reverse servo/piston. They make different ones with different length shafts, you put one in, if its out of tolerance you put a longer/shorter one in. BUT there are only 3 lengths/part numbers.

In my case it was limited engagement of reverse. I had several problems and have had other problems in the past. I declared the tranny a waste/curesed and got a new one!
