During Regen what does it mean when I see White Smoke?

The past few Regen's I've had I have noticed some white smoke. It only happens from a dead stop. If I hit the pedal to get goin that is when the white smoke appears. My Tail pipes are super clean with no soot.

during colder temps, your exhaust is cold and has some moisture in it. During the regen process your exhaust is getting super hot and you are just cleaning it out of moisture. Cold outside and that combo is the reason for the white smoke.

Mine smokes like that every time I have had a regen. I've only had my truck for about a month though and it has been cold around here.

I just was a bit on the worried side. As long as there is no issue I am happy with that news. It has 37,700 miles on it and knock on wood no real issues other than I feel it does it's regen too often. But I do a fair share of city driving. Recently I have started using a cetane boost and it has helped the regen cycles a bit. Mileage is a small amount better as well.

Mine is the same way with the white smoke on regen. Is it common that when you come to a red light and sit for a couple mins that you get a wierd smell like something burning during regen cycle?

For the brief time I had the DPF on it was during the summer with 80+ degrees, and I still got the white smoke. I would think that is the particulate being burned up at high temps and let out into the atmosphere. Why else would they regen?

i would have thought your white smoke was out of the TIRES!! Aren't you always on the throttle, and these 6.4s are STOUT!! (LOL)

With the right temperature/humidity, I get lots of smoke. You can watch the folks in your rear view mirror avoid you!

I live in a humid area and the only times it has smoked was when the EGT probes were broken.

I can see it burning off moisture IF it would regen when it was first started up. But once you get going the exhaust heats up pretty fast and it'll burn it off anyway. I'd say you have a problem with an EGT probe.

FWIW, Mine went into regen every AM on my 55 mile drive to work. It would start before I left the neighborhood and not stop until I was about 10 miles from the office. This was mostly hwy driving too. It never smoked while doing this. Just consumed massive amounts of fuel!

The dealer finally found the bad EGT. They had suspected it for some time, but you know how it goes... If it ain't bad on their readout they can't replace it under warranty!

Well last week I was in Denver, CO. and after sitting for about 30 min. I started it up and it died. I thought it was odd so I cranked it again and it idled really rough about 250 on the rpm side. Called my service advisor and he advised me to let it sit for about a hald hour and try it again. The check engine light also came on. Long story short after it sat I cranked it and it ran ok even though the check engine light was still on. I arrived at the dealership in the springs and also told him about the white smoke. Got a call the next day and he told me that the EGR was stuck so they put a new one on under warranty. Hopefully with a new one it will lessen the Regens that I've been having.

new style EGR is suppose to be better as well. The new one deletes the coolant to it.

So the new EGR design has no coolant running through it at all? Sounds like a good thing. isn't that one thing the 6.0 guys do to theirs is block off the coolant to the EGR valve?

The 6.0 folks I think do a complete delete. EGR and coolant.

Don't think anyone has for the 6.4 yet. You would have to run a programmer capable of telling the ECM to forget about it.

Gotcha. So the EGR valve itself doesn't have coolant in it but the coolant still cools the exhaust before it is injected into the engine?
