2010 Brake Controller Question
#16
Subscribing...........Trying to figure out my friends 2010 F-150. Did not come with factory TBC. He called the dealership he bought the truck from and he was told that Ford didn't make TBC for the F-150, you have to go aftermarket. So all of you with factory TBC and the Ford website are lies they are not real.

Here's the picture of the TBC connector. It has a dummy plug in it from the factory.

Thanks for the pictures of under the dash, it really helped. My heart sank when I took the dash apart and took the cubby hole out and there was no cable. Went back into the house and looked at this post and saw the picture. Had the TB installed in minutes. Just have to take it to the dealer to get turned on.
*** when I ordered my Trailer Brake the dealer, he needed to know what month my 2010 F-150 was manufactured. There are TWO Trailer Brakes for the 2010 model. If manufactured in or before August 2009 it takes the trailer brake starting with 9L3Z. After August is another model. The one without the digital read out on the unit.

I went to the dealer yesterday to get my tbc turned on. I also got my first oil change done. I waited about an hour when the tech came in the waiting room and told me the oil was changed and they were TRYING to turn the TBC on. After reading these forums I knew they had look under parameters and thats what I told him. He gave me a look like how did you know that. Well he left the room and walked out to the garage and then came back 5 minutes later. He told me that I am all set and handed my my keys. No charge!!!

Hello All,
I am having the same issues as posted above but have an additional question I can't get an answer for. I just bought a Fleetwood RV on a E-450 chasis. It did not come with a brake controller but I believe that I did find the connector for it as mentioned in an earlier post connected to the back of the coin holder. I do not however have a message center. My questions are can I buy a Ford factory TBC and plug and play or do I need the message center and if so or not do I then need to take it in to Ford to have it turned on? I am thinking it is going to be easier just installing an aftermarket brake controller. Even then however do I still have to worry about sonmething being activated on the Ford side? I know the Ford Factory TBC integrates with the ABS system will the aftermarket brake controller do the same?

Update........I have installed 2 aftermarket brake controllers on 2010 F-150 without factory TBC. Used the pigtail to the brake controller and hooked to plug under dash. Then have to install a relay and fuse under the hood in the fuse box to make the battery charge wire in the trailer plug work. The trailer brakes work without those installed. Also these truck come with the wiring to the back of the truck. The end of the plug is on top of the rear crossmenber over the spare tire. Just plugged in the 7-way plug from ford and it was done.
