i want to lift my 2001 ford f150 and put dana 60's underneith it and lift it and put 44's on it any one done it
i need to know lift hight
engine mods
and gear mods

 

You might want to rethink that rear dana60. Its not much better than a 9 inch you might want to go to a sterling 10.25

The front D60's are but the rears are not that much better but they are better. If you are already doing it custom you might as well go with the sterling.

 

i still disagree but i understand your thought. but if your goin custom he should go Rockwell 2.5 tons. lol.

 

so will the dana 60's hold up to the 44's cause ive already got them and i would rather not send just the rear back and any ideas on what gears i should run ?????

 

yeah they will hold up just fine.

 

But then again if your doing that why not just go 5 tons and 54's. Why stop at 44's lol. If you already have them then yes run them I was just speaking as if you hadn't bought axles yet. They will hold but the sterling would have just been piece of mind. For a cruising rpm (65 mph) of 2626 (better gas mileage) use a 5.29 for a cruise rpm of 3559 (more power) use a 7.17or somewhere in between for a compromise. i thought about going 54's but then i have to get into legal hight and a buddy of mine already has 54's on his f250 outlaw and has more trouble with it than anything plus i have seen a 2000 + f150 running around on 44's the biggest i seen is 38's another thing what kind of engine mods will i have to make to my 5.4 if i put 7.17 gears in it and thanks for the chart look up

 

Those guys are right on the rear D60 is not being a great choice. The stock axle shafts are the weak point on these rear ends. A buddy of mine was snapping them like toothpicks in his Dodge with 40s on it, we ended up yanking it a stuffing a D70HD out of a motorhome under it. I believe Moser is who offers some monster 35 spline shafts to replace the dinky stock 30 spline pieces. However if you do this you will have to have the spindles hogged out to accommodate the bigger shafts. By the time you are done spending all that money you will still have to figure out how to install the VSS (vehicle speed sensor) and the exciter ring on this axle. You'll need the VSS in order to keep the computer happy. It would be easier and cheaper to go with an 87 and newer 10.25" Sterling, it's all ready set up for the VSS... plus they are much stronger than a D60 rear. The D60 front will handle 44s no problem, for gearing I would recommend either 5.13s or 5.38s. A stock motor will turn big tires no problem if the gearing is properly matched to the tire size.

 

I got a friend that had a 99 f150 w/ solid axle conversion. He took his truck to Full Throttle Suspensions and had 19" of suspension.

 

What type of suspension did he go with? Leaf sprung, coils, coilovers...? Just curious. I haven't seen any 97 and newer F150s with SAS where I live, of course most people where I live are Chevy guys
