Could someone that has one of these axles measure it from brake backing plate to brake backing plate and post the measurement ? Reason that I need this measurement is I am in position to buy a 63 (we think) that has no front axle (or motor /trans ) the axle was removed and put under a 65 Fairlane to make a street gasser . We need the measurement cause we found about 20-25 axles piled behind a old barn and according to the man that owns them they are Ford truck and Econoline . I will dig in to them once I get the measurement. My grandson wants to restore the truck and I may do just that if I can find the parts to build it.

Not muchof a chance to reply. The front axle is 60.3" from center of tread to tread. The rear is 60.5" to center of treads. Which work to close to where the outer edge of the drum is.
You could PM Numberdummy He would be the one up on these things. He is very knowledgeable on these ford truck stuff.

 

Here are some measurements. I have disc brakes on mine so this measurement is from where the brake backing plates mount to. 58 inches back to back there.

I measuresed from the outside of the nut that holds the steering linkage arms on. This is on the front of the axle. 52 inches there.

From the front inner ubolt hole to hole was 33 inches.

 

Many Thanks guys!!!! With these numbers I can start digging tru all the axles that we found and see if we can come up with a axle to put under the front of this truck. The truck is actually in very good shape considering that it has been siting on the backside of a soy bean field for 12 plus years here on the gulf coast. My grandson is really excited about this truck. He thinks it is about the "Sickest"(?) thing he has ever seen, the big wide windshield, sitting over/in front of the front wheels and it had a manual trans . We will see how it goes.

Update on this post ,We got a axle infact the whole thing ,springs ,tie rods,backing plates,brake drums and some brackets. We found this in a old mechanic's garage that had been closed for many years.Got every thing for 100 bucks. Going to have to rebuild everything,which we expected but it's a good start.

With it all off the truck/van. now would be a good time to replace the kingpins. It is a lot easier to press out off the vehicle. You can paint it all up before installig to make it look nice.
Glad you found one now you can work on the project with the grandson.
