i've got a 351m w/c6 in a 77 f100. from an earlier question, someone suggested changing to an early 80s tranny with aod. is this possible? will the 80s tranny w/aod bolt up to the 351m?
if so, are there any modification needed?
As far as I know Aod trannys came out in the 80's and the 351m/400 was only produced a couple of years in the 80's until it was dropped. The only Possible donor I could think of is to find a later model 460 and see if you can find out if Ford ever mated an overdrive tranny to it since the 460 has the same bolt pattern. Somebody else on the forum should know some more about it than I do.
Checking through Hollander interchange, I could not find any year in which a 460 came out with an over drive trans, except the E4OD, which is electronic and would not work for you. All of the AOD were for small block engines only
I think you can do anything if you want to spend enough money. If it is true that the E4OD will bolt up to the 351m-400 then I think this site will be helpful.

BC, You are quite correct in that anything can be done for enough money. The big problem with most of us here is we have champagne tastes, and beer budgets.
Thanks for the link.
