POWERSTROKE

You stated in response to a dimension data question the following: The 5.5 ft. bed is only available with the Raptor or the mid-box prep package on other trucks. What do you mean by a mid-box package on other trucks? I though Ford QUIT making the 5.5' box on the F-150 extended cab completely (other than the Raptor) that is. Thanks.

The wheelbase is the same as a truck with a 8 foot bed but the mid-box prep package shortens the usable bed space to 5.5 feet to make room for the mid-box. The mid-box is an enclosed box between the bed and cab for tool storage, etc. Kind of like a drom box on a road tractor. These pics are from a pre- '09 truck but it shows the box installed between the bed and cab.

Seems like a huge waste of space. I would much rather have the extra space in the open box.

Yeah I agree Scott. I think it was mostly geared toward contractors that could use lockable tool storage. Not really sure why else they'd do it.
