motor swap done carb issues
I just bought a 65 f100 that smoked real bad out of the driver side of the 352(tail pipe) The truck came with a FE with 73 casting numbers on the heads. I ran some seafome through the first, just smoked more. I decided to swap out the motors to see if the 73 was better. 16 hours of work later NO Smoke! I used the holly carb off of the old motor and the Idle screws don't change anything, the truck will not idle without the choke on a bit. Dose this sound as if something is clogged, broken or miss-adjusted? I also have a motorcraft carb that came with the 73 FE is one better than the other? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks 2V carbs <!-- / message --> <!-- sig --> __________________

Ya I thought it might be dangerous flipping buts into the carb. I had some time to tinker a bit with the carb and sprayed carb cleaner at the base of the carb the idle did pick up slightly I guess that I need to get new gaskets and re install it. where did you blow air into the carb? did you remove the adjustment screws? not real sure that the pickup wasn't from fumes going into th air cleaner. I may chuck the big block and go with a 6 or a 302 I have a 302 anyone know of a 6 I could trade my 360 for ?

I will just throw this out as an option. A retired mechanic friend rebuilds 2V carbs for $40. You supply the kit. Problem solved. Shipping within state shouldnt be much. If you want you can ship it to me, I will take it and retrieve it from him, reship. He only lives 5 miles away and I'm over there fairly often.
I have had Bill rebuild at least 9 2100 Autolites for me, everyone worked perfect. Finally decided to stay and watch from beginning to end, and now am doing my own 2100s. 2300s are basically the same animal. He is a phenom in my book.
Today I dropped by to see if by chance he had an early Ford vacuum advance left over from his Dyno days.
Yep, and as with everything else he does or has, a lot less expensive than other sources.
