flatbed conversion?
sam,
pros:
instant rollbar
no worrys of breaking out rear glass while loading brush.
rebuildable\removable bedsides,
hidden 5th wheel if needed,
scratches easliy fixed,
bed floor rock solid,
taillights cheap to replace,
hang,hook,weld,tie down anything on it,
cons:
people love 'em or hate 'um for looks that is.
i just boughta new one for my 70 f250 4x4 and it's even got back up lights in the headache rack and a break light in the center.
i use this truck for work mostly but a can't justify a original bed.it would be like my original in no time.
also for anybody who remembers me braggin' about my truck for the last 7months,it has been torn clear down and getting totally gone through*****pt drivetrain.
i am knee deep in it.
sam,
my bed cost 1200$ but they come alot cheaper than that.people build 'em themselves to.

yea buddy, old fords rule!!!, if you have the time and the patience, you could build your own. i did that with my 77 F100,short. it wasnt hard to do, but then, i had access to all the materials needed for free. but still not hard to do. took a little over a week, working on it after work during the week and then a whole saturday and was finished sunday morning..(pulled an all-nighter) i didnt paint it, i stained it, then cleared it, i didnt make a "headache rack", i put 1 1/2" square stock down through the bed to the frame of the bed. (fastened under the bed) these are my uprights, they start behind the cab, are a foot and a half apart, there are three of them. each one is 1/3 shorter than the one at the cab. ie. 3ft., 2ft., 1ft., from floor to end of post. then ran chain through them for show... i dont haul anything, this was built for the fact that, at the time, it was what i wanted and now i like it too much to remove it. its the best looking part on the truck now,(lol) i'll have to work on that... since the truck is sitting now with no engine in it.. hope this gave you some ideas. later, mocky

If any of you guys want to drop your rusty 67-72 beds off in my yard that would be nice! Anything I can get would be helpful, since I plan to repair whatever I can find for a close to stock look. Living in Maine there is no way I'll find a perfect original, so I'll take what I can get!

adam,
i wish for you that you didn't live that far from me.i have a 70 bed that just needs crossmembers.it and my original are goin' to the scrap this week.
i need to clean up my pasture and can't find anybody interested in the beds other than weight for their loads.
i liked your truck regardless of the rust.
