1995 F150 Fuel Pump Problem
Hi, I have a 1995 F-150 4.9 2x4. The truck has dual tanks. When I select the front tank the truck will not run and I cannot hear the pump turn on. Works fine for the rear tank though.
It happened to me once before and I waited a couple of days and the pump started working again. Now its been a few weeks and nothing. Both times it crapped out on me was when I tried starting it with the remote starter that the previous owner had installed I don't know if that has anything to do with the problem?
Can anyone give me some places and things to start checking? Thanks

I'm pretty sure the front and rear pumps run off of the same relay, but it doesn't hurt to give that a check. It should be located under the hood.
But if it worked once, quit, then worked again, then crapped out for good, I'd guess the pump is probably bad. The only other thing I can suggest is that MAYBE your tank selector switch is getting worn out, or you may have a bad ground somewhere. Trace the circuit and check for continuity.

but how big of a pain is it to take the bed off is the question lol... I think it would be easier to just unstrap the tank and drop it? Can anyone tell me how to check if the switch is good and what wiring to check on the way to the tank? Thanks.
Oh, and I don't think the pump just crapped out or was on its way out because when it stopped working and started again it worked fine it seemed to only crap out when using the remote starter so I don't know.. the guy who installed the remote starter did a real hack job too. Wiring is a mess. I was thinking of ripping it out but am afraid I will never get it started again.

ya brett is right...its really 50/50..ive replaced the pump in mine twice now, and i just took the be off. i fortunatly only had to grind off one bolt, and then coated all of the bolts with antiseize on the reinsallation of them. if you can get the bed off easily go with that. after i had the bed off the pump replacement is a 5min. job if that, and then try starting it back up after install to make sure it works. plus with the bed off, you can take it for a spin and get all of those "what the hell?" looks...priceless. good luck with it.

Why is it so difficult to drop the tank? Isn't it just held in there by straps? Can anyone tell me how to diagnose if the switch is the culprit or any other wiring?
Oh, and thanks for all the replies I appreciate the help. If I cant find a problem with the switch or wiring I am going to wait until after winter since I live in canada and its starting to get bad

As far as the switch goes just unplug the front fuel tank plug at the frame and take a test light and check from the red wire to the orange wire. Have someone turn on the key and the test light should light for one second with the front tank selected.
You could also unplug the switch and jumper from the red wire to the red wire with a yellow stripe and turn on the key. The pump should run for one second.

I have a 1995 f150 xl regular cab long bed 4.9 i6. The other day it stalled at a light and wouldn't crank back up. Rented a trailer and towed it home. Acted like it wasn't getting fuel. Took off intake sprayed starter fluid cranked up and died again. Read something online about switching back and forth from front tank to rear tank, and the fuel pump engaged. Fired right up. I always use the front tank. Ifuel from the front transfers to the rear tank. and I cant use the rear tank. Bogs down doesn't run right. Been sitting for a while till about 3 weeks ago. Just got it back up and running. I'm replacing the fuel pump on the front tank but I dont know the size of the tank. And I'm not sure what's all wrong with it
