Fuel leak

Fuel leak
I`m sure this is a very common question, but here goes. I have a fuel leak on my 2002 7.3. The leak appears to be in the area of the fuel filter,I say this because the valley appears top be getting wet with fuel and running down the back of the engine ( my driveway is inclined so it is obvious). The problem is worst on short trips and appears to go away quite a bit on my daily commute, which is about 35 miles of highway each way. What are the most common leak points and how hard are they to fix. Can a garage mechanic do these fixes. Please help cause this is my daily driver and i cant afford to have it in the shop. Thanks for a great foum.

Sounds like a drain valve (yellow handle) on the back left passenger side of the bowl or it could be the fuel lines going into and out of the bowl, feel around with the motor on or at least the key on for wetness. Here's where to get the o-rings if you need them, Bob's top notch from service to delivery.. http://www.dieselorings.com/index.ph...by=DESCRIPTION

I would say it does sound like the bowl drain valve. I had the same symptoms on mine, it was was worse when it was cold. I think after you get a little heat under the hood the o-rings expand and the leaks are fewer. Anyway, I replaced mine with the blue o-rings from guzzle. You can down load PDF instructions from his website. It was fairly easy to do, even for a mechanical dummy like me. Replacement O-rings for Ford Diesel Engines
