Detroit 6V53T into F250
hey, I've got a marine 6v53t totally rebuilt (for FREE) and it's new home is my 86 F250HD 4x4 diesel w/ a 6.9na. Wondering if anyone here has done this swap before? I've seen a few on youtube etc.... I know a bodylift and front axle upgrade ( already upgraded to a dana 60 ) are needed but i'd like some advice from someoone who's done this conversion, and please no Detroit bashing i'm looking for advice not criticism
Thanks

At 1695 lbs, if this:
Diesel Engine Specs
is correct, it is what, 600 lbs heavier than the 6.9? PLUS whatever goliath transmission you are going to stuff into the itty-bitty transmission tunnel in that truck.
I guess the advice here is to beware the additional mods needed, as they will be extensive methinks....
The second advice would be to sell the Deetroyt and freshen the 6.9 and add a hairdryer to it.

I've got no problems with firewall/tunnel sheetmetal mods and i plan on 2.5 ton Rockwells or something simular.... and a extra 600 lb isn't a big deal (thats like having a mother-in-law in the passangers seat! lol) The main thing is the Detroit is going into the truck, how could i not? It's a marine, full rebuild, with n90 injectors(i believe) a new turbo, and just the sound alone is enough motivation to do it... And the way it sits now its rated at 275hp at 2800rpm and i think torque is in the 600 range, and thats reliable power. Don't get me wrong i like the 6.9, when it comes out it's going into my wife's fullsize bronco as i've already rebuilt it

Rotation is always determined by looking at the flywheel end of an inboard engine. The flywheel of a standard rotation engine turns left, or counter-clockwise, when viewed from the flywheel. The flywheel of a reverse rotation engine turns right, or clockwise, when viewed from the flywheel. Most single engine inboard and I/O boats use a standard rotation
Starter motors, when mounted forward of the flywheel, will turn clockwise (R.H.) to start a standard rotation (L.H.) counter-clockwise motor. Starters mounted aft of the flywheel will turn counter-clockwise (L.H.) to start the same engine. Everything is just the opposite when speaking of a reverse rotation (R.H.) clockwise engine

It is standard rotation... The story behind the motor is it got rebuilt put back in then the other motor blew next trip out, the owner decided to repower the boat and didn't wanna deal with the oldies so i scooped them up. I'd like to get a roadranger 10 ( i had one years ago in a 74 International on a 6-71 ) or a eaton fuller 7 but i'm still undecided, what i have decided is definatly straightpiped and stacks. I will take pics of the stages of this build for those interested

I have a 3-53 in a 1 ton Chevrolet. Not the same but close. For one thing you have to have a straight axle because the center piece where the independent suspension bolts will be in the way. I cut out the crossmember where the old 454 bolted too, the new engine has engine mounts that sit directly on the frame, so the engine itself actually acts as the crossmember. This is a nonturbo 353, only about 98 HOrspower. Mine is a aluminum block out of a marine Gamma Goat, in the Gamma Goat is was already bolted to a Chevrolet transmission, so I got the engine and bell housing with clutch and all, took my 454 bell housing off my tranny, the new engine w/ bell housing bolted right to my chevy tranny. My dream has always been a 6v53 in a one ton Ford, one day I will get it done, but I'm looking forward to seeing your project. You may want to consider an Allison 545 tranny. No matter what tranny you use, to get your 4x4 working I would use a NP205 out of mid 70s Ford, they are divorced so they have a driveshaft coming in and out, that way you don't have to worry about it bolting to you tranny.
