What a weekend...

My bro needed to borrow my truck to pick up some parts for his suzuki.
Last time I gave him the '76 the dist. cap had a crack in it and left him stranded when it started raining. Now I haven't driven the '76 in months but have been working on it to get it ready for winter. I wasn't confident that it could make a long trip without issues so I gave him the '77 which has been running great. I even filled it up for him knowing that it wouldn't likely make it to London and back on a single tank. Besides I wanted to spend Saturday working on the '76.
So he takes the '77 on Friday night and all is good,.......until Saturday Morning when my phone rings.... the 460 blew the water pump bearing and the fan almost took out the rad. So it's 10:50am and I start phoning around for a water pump. Only Carquest has one in stock at their warehouse store by the airport. No problem I have to go past there anyway and then they tell me that they close at 11:45!
I jump in the '76 and may have ignored the Hiway Traffic Act once or twice but I make to the store and get the pump. Back on the hiway to find 401 west down to one lane because of a serious accident. I stop in Woodstock and go into Canadian Tire to pick up antifreeze and a few odds and ends then back to the 401.
My brother had things torn down pretty well but had to take most of the accessories off to get at the pump. It was slow going but he put it all together just after dark.
Finally head east again and I make it to Milton when I realize that the '76 is well past empty so I pull into a gas station as the truck starts to sputter, It was full when i left the house. Filled it up again.

An expensive weekend both in cash and time.

I may have to take a day off work to catch up.....

Expensive I'm sure, but just _imagine_ the cost of paying other people to take care of it all. Good to hear the roadside assembly went OK, sorry to hear it had to be done.

I'm very curious Frank, maybe you know something I don't, but how does a day off work catch you up in cash???

My truck had much better luck on Saturday, hauling the second and final load of scrap metal for the year, and getting some quality bonding time with my son in the truck. Also hauled some stuff to my dad's house for him. I'd pull the insurance off the truck for the winter, but I still have several loads of drywall, insulation, wood etc. to pick up to finish my house before Jan.

Happy to hear it all worked out fa ya.

Give me a call if you ever run into the hard parts find problem again, the guy who lives across the road from Andy runs the local Partsource.

I can tell you but it will cost you!!

I wouldn't recommend taking the insurance off. I had done this for years with the Falcon, leaving only fire/theft on for the winter months. I went a year with out putting liability back on it( I didn't drive it) and when the renewal came around they asked for a safety and an appraisal. Another time I had a winter beater ('88 toyota)that I cancelled the policy outright. When I went to add it to the policy again they insisted on a safety.
Insurance companies are legislated extortion in this province! They continue to increase rates while their earning are going through the roof. I think we would all be shocked if we new just how many cars are on the road with out insurance because people simply cannot afford it.- rant off.

Rick, Andy's neighbor has too many Chevy's to be trusted!
I appreciate the offer but I needed the part immediately. This is probably the 3rd time that Carquest has benn able to get me stuff that the others could not or could not as quickly. Their pricing sucks though, I get better deals from NAPA.

Lets see how this weekend goes.....

Smile Pre- 80's parts

You should give a shout some time other than a roadside emerg. I have the source for mostly pre-80's parts without going to the Big Guy's. I deal in alot of parts that are not so available anymore.

Santa's going to bring me a $$$$$Tree

I'm sure you recall my summer of Big truck accidents, knee replacements, equine knee fractures,no job,,,,,,,, well it gets better. The new old 96 freightliner that was bought to replace the International (one in accident), which by the way was a way cool decked out Longhood(fire engine red and lots of chrome was in kijiji for sale) well in Sept.
two o rings in the piston liners started leaking we were told that to fix it inframe would be about $17,000 . So we put the truck up for sale, now the 91 ford 4x4 bit the dust I hate sensors!!!!!!
FALCON'S TAXI in her little red escort.
My fingers can't type enough to get into all the details.
I just wish we would get snow.

When he's done send him right on over to my place next, he knows the address, just tell him to get a move on.
