I've got the doors on and need to fab the part that stops the door from swinging wide open, (ruin paint). does anyone have a picture of the retaining part. it is slotted and fits over the swing arm attached to the door,

Since you didn't tell us what you're working on, I'm going to step out and make a couple assumptions (which is always dangerous), based on your user name, and say you've got an F-1, and you're talking about the door check strap found in the front of the door jamb. The strap is actually attached to the door jamb, and slides into the inside of the door. Inside there, a rubber bumper fits over the end of the check strap and retained with a cotter pin, to keep the door from flying all the way to damage things. The kits to repair those are available from any effie parts supplier. If you've got something there "attached" to the door itself, you're doing something wrong.

 

Well, in looking at Tip49s profile we see he has a 1950 F47.

So it's a Bonus Built.

It's 7C-81235000 on the right side. It uses the arm and the three parts above the 7C arm that are welded to the cab side door jamb. The rubber stop is inside the door beyond the inner door frame and can be accessed through the access panel. For the rubber stop, I used the rubber flathead (239) motor mount (the smaller of the two) and it worked perfect! Make sure you really bend the ends of the cotter pin over, I had mine fall out once and it was a pain to fish the stopper out of the door bottom. If you need a picture of mine installed, let me know and I'll go out and take one

If you're talking about the 702842 bracket and pin set, shown above the check strap, those parts don't bolt to the door. They are welded to the body, in the door jamb. The pin slides into the holes in the brackets to retain the strap, as a hinge. The 702810 is simply a seal, and has no function as for checking movement of the door. Just to be clear.

 

Correct, but rather than say it a third time lets just post a picture like the OP asked for.

One of the vendors sells new ones. I bought them for my 49 f-1. They were not a lot of $$. Unfortunately, I don't remember which vendor I got them from. Probably was Sacromento Vint Ford, if I had to guess.

 

No offence taken, I'm German and a Virgo and strive for the same in most things - but I'm human too.. Plus after almost two years of posting with Number Dummy (who really has mellowed out) and Col Flashman (who hasn't at all), I undestand and support your thoroughness!

There's a guy who makes them and sells the door brakes on e-bay. I haven't seen any for quite a while. They should be fairly easy to make out of flat stock, and the brackets should still be in the door jamb.

I do in fact have a 50 F(47) so bonus built it is; I'll try toremember to post it everytime I ask questions to eliminate the confusion.

So Sacramento Ford eh? I need to find a vendor for the hinge arm, stop things as well as glass and bumpers.

Hope to hit Palm Springs and Phoenix in a month, so I'll be surfing for parts close to those areas.

Tom, I think its just a day trip to LA and back from Palm Springs, why not either make the trip to Sac Vin or Johns fun 100’s (they show a lot in their on line cat) and do a order pickup or have them shipped to Palm Springs and then bring them home?

Julie; I have been to a rod shop somewhere in Escondido, can't remember name but I will probably check out C&G.

The picture you posted is perfect; I need one arm, stops and 81A-702810 parts. My doors are painted so I dont want to weld on the 81A-702810. I'll have to run out to a local junk yard that has a couple of bonus built skeletons, to look at that install.

All of those car, rod, and body shops are all in a 2 block area. So you were probably on the street that C&G was on.

 

Stopped at a wrecker to look at early 50 truck skeletons; scored a passenger mirror bracket that may come in handy, may decide to build my own out of s/s.

Looked closer at my driver door retaining arm, it has a "T" on the end inside the door, and no hole for the cotter pin, behind the bumper. I'll probably go with after market, like Julie posted, to keep them the same.

Sac Vin Ford, but they say there are two lengths, anybody know what length the 50 F1'a require? I'm not at home to measure.
