I am at a loss This truck has benn down for a while and i finally got the parts and money to deal withit and now this. While the truck was just sitting in my garage not being driven for a lil over a year I walked in one day and saw all the oil on the ground i follwed it back to the oil filter and just thought that the truck did have alot of rust under it and maybee the filters rubber seal went. so I replaced filter and oil with all new. I finally finished the truck and it started right up but when I looked under it I saw OIL POURING out of the filter to the ground coming from one spot on the drivers side of the top of the filter where it seals to the truck its not all the way around the filter just one spot and when the truck is running it is literally pouring out. I shut off the truck and inspected for damage there was no visible damage and filter was tight. I havent pulled filter off yet but I have NO idea what this could be. PLEASE HELP WITH ANY SUGGESTIONS THANK YOU IN ADVANCE.

 

Are you sure that you got the old oil seal off of the block?

Last time that I had something like this happen was the one time I didn't double check to see that the old seal was off.

 

sounds to me like the old seal is still on there too.

 

Ok so I checked an the old seal was gone there was some corrosion build up so I cleaned it and it was only in the spot where it was leaking from so I thought sweet problem solved. Nope it's still pouring out when I start the truck I am positive it is coming from top of filter where seal should seal I am at a loss I can't even comprehend how I mean the seal is making a clean seal i don't know how the oil can get around it to pour out. I don't know what to do.

 

Do you have the correct filer on the truck now? FL820S

 

I'd check the "top" of the filter housing to make sure a crack didn't develop there. See if you can feel oil right above where the filter screws on, or look at it with a mirror.

 

Dont get offended by this but you did oil the new seal up before installing it ?

 

yes I did oil the new seal i can not figure it out How much does the housing that the oil filter screws on to roughly go for is it worth replaving to see if that works???

 

You need to change the oil filter housing to block gasket.

Explain what do u mean change to "block gasket" pleaser

 

The oil filter threads onto the cast aluminum oil filter adapter which is bolted to the cast iron engine block. There is a gasket between the two pieces.

I have a 150 and 250SD. How much work is involved in switching over to the oil cooler mounted filter on the 150? This 150 has had this leak issue for months. I've done the block/housing o ring twice (not a happy time). My 250SD has never left a drop. Does the engine mount have to swap as well?
