My Project Truck

How about everyone give a short desription of their project truck or planned project truck so we all know a little more about each other.

I am working on a 1955 F100 that is mostly stock but eventually will be hot rodded with a 50s style warmed up 292. After 5 years, still just getting started.

Modifications - My first mod was to install front disc brakes. The next was to add power to those brakes. Really stops good now.

Future upgrades - Rebuilding a 292 Y block V8 to replace the 239 Y block. When the 292 is built it will have a Weiand 3x2 intake with 3 Ford 2100 carbs on top and progressive linkage. Reground cam by Schnieder from Red's Headers waiting to be installed. I have a picture of the engine mocked up in my gallery. Install headers and dual exhaust. Adding power steering by using a Toyota power steering box and kit from Mid Fifties. Waiting for the kit to arrive. New springs front and rear to lower the truck. New wheels and tires. Rebuild the bed. Get the body work done to repair rust and large dent in the cab and repaint. Redo the interior.

That's my plan, now I just need the money to make it happen.

I gots a early prod. '77 F250 4x4, thats a cross between old generation and new(ugh). It had a 351m originally, then it got blown up and got a 400in its place. Thats when I got it. I wont lie, shes rusty from wisconsin winters. It needs a new cab and bed, new leaf spring packs on all fours, some TLC to save the frame, and assemble my 429TJ to put in it. I could use some of this stuff in case anyone has some leftovers or a connection. Amazing I even one to touch a car after a long day of working on them!

My 1958 F-100 Custom Cab is the one that I hope to be able to show in a few years. The plan is a showroom originalcondition restoration. The story of the truck is on my truck page at http://www.swatek.com/truck.htm .

Great website Mike. That was a once in a lifetime find we all dream about. Looks like you will have a nice and easy restoration. The truck looks great as is.

My Project Truck

Right now I have 1 project started, and 1 waiting to be started. I have a 77 F-150 I'm 80% finished with. I had it painted at the local vo-tech. It took 6 months, but they did a good job and it only cost me materials (app. $600). I put a chrome 79 grill and head light assembly on it because it looks much better than the 77. I had a custom seat cover made with a matching padded and diamond tufted vinel dash cover. I still need to have my head liner padded to match the dash and put new carpets in it. I am going to pull the 351m out and replace it with the 460 from my 79 F-150. I have a 429 in storage, and am planning on useing the heads on the 460 (for the bigger valves and ports). This truck is my everyday driver so I'm not going to make it too radical.

When I'm finished with my 77, I'm going to build my 79 for strictly strip. I'm going to paint it to match my 77. I'm planning on useing the 429 block with aluminum heads. It will probally take me a few years to have the money though.

I'm going to put the 351m in the 79 to drive while I'm building the 460. But then it will be for sale if anyone is interested.

Post My Project Truck

I have 2 ongoing projects. One is a 2nd owner 1965 F100 short wheel based pickup that I have recently installed a newly rebuilt 300-6 that replaced the original 240-6 engine. The truck is a very dependable daily driver. The only major change I am considering is replacing the stock 3 speed with an automatic transmission.

The '65 F100 is white and can be veiwed in the photo album at: http://www.octm.com/dane/index.htm

The other ongoing project is a 1978 F150 XLT Ranger that I bought about 1 month ago from the original owner that took very good care of the truck. It now has 151,000 original miles on it with a 460/C6 with a towing package.

The '78 XLT Ranger is 2 tone green and can be veiwed at: http://www.octm.com/dane/index49.htm

My Project Truck

First Off Mike you have a great site and a couple of really nice trucks.

My project can't seem to get going. Every time I get headed in that direction something comes up. Like now I may be buying a house so waiting to find out about that before I start.

When the truck is finished, if that is possible, it will be a full on chevy killing drag truck (I hope). The plan is to put a Mustang II front end under it. A 4-link rear end out back. Tub it to the max. Narrow the rear. Run a one piece Fiberglass front end to help save weight. It won't be a full time racer but it will be pretty hoped up. I do plan to make the interior fairly nice with some nice newer upgrades. The powertrain is a 390 now. It will be hopped up with a Hydro roller cam, new valvetrain, light wieght forged piston, new intake(ebock PerfomerRPM), Not sure on the carb as of yet. The list goes on and on.

the engine will be backed by a C-6 trany. Thinking a TCI street fighter. with about a 3000 stall converter. ford 9" rear end with either 3.89 gears or 4.11 gearing. I know the pros and cons of both just trying to decide which way to go. Most likely going to run a spool. Because it won't be driven on the road much just a cruise night here and there. But, I might change my mind and run a locker of somekind.

Well anyway sorry to take up so much room and time but htat is my plan for now. By the way If anyone wants to help I am in Miami OK.

Scotty
