No cruise or horn. NOT the clock spring though

Well, I just got done swapping out the clock spring on my Excursion because the horn and cruiser will not work. Still having the same issue now and I know I did it correctly. So, what else is left?

I will say that the horn engagement seems really wierd on this. Its like its not spring loaded at all. Normally when you push a horn it will feel as if there is a spring, but not on this X. I am curious if that may be the issue or may have something to do with it.

I have also check fuses as well and they are good.

FWIW, the airbag system is working correctly and the horn will sound with the alarm, so I know its working. Any ideas?

Remove the steering column cover and check the wiring that runs along the top. They have been known to chafe and break. Especially with those that have tilt.

Wiring looks fine. Casing still intact and no indication of any wear issues or chafing other than this issue on my ***.

I had a similar thing happen last winter. I ended up giving up and taking it in. They replaced the wiring on the brake master cylinder, (on the end of it there is a wiring harness) and then they traced it to the cruise control module. There is a recall for that switch on the brake master cylinder so you can phone in your vin and they should be able to tell you if it was ever upgraded on yours, or take it in and they can look at it and should be able to tell. Mine was replaced, and still had the same problem.
Here is a picture.

Yes, mine has been replaced in the recall. Since I have only had this X for a couple weeks, I have no clue if it worked before or after that. Oasis report doesn't show squat either.

Well if you replaced the clock spring, and already had that wire done, the only thing left would be the cruise control module. The most expensive part in the mix.

it is the cruise control module.. it happen to me.. had the wire harness off the master cylinder replaced and then found out the the module was burnt out at the connector... it cost like 300 for the part if im not mistaken.... if u disconnect the module and disconnect the wire harness by the master cylinder and make sure all your fuses are good the horn will work

if the module is bad the wire harness that goes to the mater cylinder is no longer needed because that harness is for the cruise control only... i forget the correct term of the harness is called but i will look it up and get back to you on it

I have the same issue on a 2001 f 250 4x4 lariat. its a standard shift and the horn will only work with the ignition off and the shifter in reverse. It also works with the alarm.

The cruise control module is located on the passengers side fender right in front of the A/C unit. My module burnt out were the wire harness plugs into the unit. If u don't want to get it fixed because you don't use the CC the just unplug the brake switch harness that plugs into the master cylinder and make sure the fuses are all good and the horn should work. I will check tomorrow to see if I still have some pics and info on all this

i unplugged the module and noticed the burnt marks on the harness and then I unplugged the master cylinder..........still no horn. Works great while my standard shift is in reverse and it also works with alarm.
