4.9L Firing order???

Hello all....dumb question, wheres # 1 cylinder on my 96 F150 4.9L? Closest to the fire wall or to the radiator? I have a check engine light and its says # 1 cylinder is running to lean so I think I might have an intake leak.

Thanks

Cool, my trouble codes are p0301 and p0147. i think it might have and intake or exhaust leak. it has a ticking noise when you hit the gas. i know its not a valve tap or anything like that. code p0301 is #1 cylinder misfire.

a little more info:

It is 1-5-3-6-2-4.

( also , the distributor rotor turns CLOCKWISE , the distributor cap is installed with the marked # 1 position facing AWAY from the engine , and the engine cylinders / spark plugs are numbered 1 through 6 , from front to rear )

See this page,1992 Ford Firing Orders

google is your friend.

I don't know about the '96, but my '67 has little raised lines cast into the front of the timing cover on the drivers side close to the outer perimeter of the harmonic balancer.

i've been playing with this thing for hours and nothing i've read its on the passanger side , i've read its on the drivers side....i can't even see the mark i put on the balancer that is marked 10 degrees. i did find however that the harness going to the distributor the wires were exposed and touching so i'll go to the junk yard in the a.m. and get a new harness and start over.

the timing tab should be right by the crank pulley. at first i couldnt read mine so what i did is spray the hell out of it with some brake kleen, gave it a lil scrub(easier to do from under the truck), and another shot of brake kleen, and then a shot of compressed air and it showed up like new. there was just so much crudd built up on it over the years... if you wana try to give your truck a lil extra pickup, set that timing at 12 deg. i was suprised with the difference when i did it to mine..
